You and your spouse will likely be getting 1000 on two occasions here soon. What’s your plan? I’m thinking about buying some Amazon stock. Or, I could improve on my .000000000001% position in Southern Company and appoint myself to the board.
How about you?

Get a stock with a yield. Ford is over 12% right now. I’m enjoying the dip while collecting the yield.

Give it to someone that needs it? The hell do I need a $1000 check for?

How does yield differ from dividend payments?

Pay for my season tickets.

Put it all into major crude/gas transmission companies like Williams or Kinder Morgan...keep fingers crossed.

Entertainment would be a good at least short term investment. People are going to go off like 40 year old virgins once we get freed.

Not everyone gets a check, right? What's the income cutoff?

Looks like $75,000 individually and $150,000 as a family.
However, I just saw on the Poli board they are considering $1,000 for adults and $500 for kids.
So, basically, no one knows.

I was thinking I read somewhere around $75K so I would think this check doesn't apply to the posters of this board.

Initially the $1k per adult and $500 per child was all you heard about. Now there are some reports that some in the GOP want to limit it to the $75k/150k thresholds.

Looks like the GOP love them some redistribution of wealth as much as the democrats if that's the case.

Spend it with a small business.
I'm retired from a state job, so even though one of my side gigs (teach CPR) is pretty much shut down the pension is plenty enough to make ends meet.
Since I don't need it for that, I want to make sure it gets somewhere that probably really needs it.
I'd encourage everyone else to do the same. That new 70-inch 4k would be nice, but still having that little shop on the corner open will have far more long term benefits.

Is this really the place for politics? This is a pretty danged unique situation where there are millions of people that can't make their power bill because the government has ordered their doors closed.
Not because they made bad decisions, were lazy, or any of the other reasons why I'd normally be vehemently opposed to 'wealth distribution.'
The government literally said no matter how bad you want to do your job, we aren't going to let you. If there ever was a legitimate reason to just give someone money, this is it.

I’ve refrained from getting an Xbox 1 because I seriously don’t need it but might have to pull the trigger

So if I make $80k by myself, but our household income is $145k, does that mean we still get to make it rain on the gubmint dime?

There's talk this morning that they want to limit it even more by imposing phase-in limits.
But they'll once again stroke big checks to the corporations that burned through their tax cut savings with stock buybacks.

I'd prefer they just defer rent and mortgage payments for 90 days. People would still be able to stimulate the economy by spending their own money while maintaining their obligation to pay their bills in the future.
I know this doesn't really help someone who is currently out of work, but it would at least reduce the number of checks going out.
One a selfish note it would be great for me because I'm hoping to sell my house in 90 days.

If we are being realistic, by the time any of these measures make it through the Senate and to the White House in a form that Trump won't veto, they'll be gutted to the point that it won't do much for anyone besides the politicians who get to harp on the fact that they voted for it.
