Why is the dems so determined to forgive students who borrowed money to go to college? But not average people who borrow money to buy houses, etc? What's the difference??
Because those are very different loan systems. You get an opportunity to negotiate the price on a home sale. You don't get the opportunity to negotiate your college tuition. You can also obtain adequate housing without going into debt if you would prefer renting. You cannot obtain the necessary educational credentials to enter certain career fields without 4+ years of college. A home purchase is an arms length transaction. Going into student loan debt, not so much. It's a predatory system.

How much do you think college costs?

That’s bullshite. Did the Coronavirus factor in to those kids getting student loans at all?
If my kid starts college this fall, should I just take out a student loan to cover the difference between her scholarship and cost of attendance and expect Aunt Nancy and Uncle Chuck to just forgive it?
And thanks for making this emergency relief bill a political football to tack all your pet projects on to effectively kill it. They should be arrested for treason.

Its just what the socialists do.

Sure, but that's not reality. Most 18 year old morons with no real education on how finances will work (including me at that age) think they'll get out of college making loads of money and a $50,0000 loan will be nothing to pay off. It's also very unrealistic to think kids can save enough to pay for college. Times have changed.
I'm not saying we should or shouldn't pay off student debt. I have debt and I won't complain either way. But, at the very least, we need to do a better job with educating kids about these loans, and making college more affordable. Gone are the days of paying your way through college in 5 years, getting a normal working degree, and being able to support a family on a single income.

That wasn't the question.

You shouldn't have to take out loans that are so burdensome that they need to be forgiven. Tuition has increased at over double the rate of inflation and at something like 10x the rate of wages over the last 30-40 years. It's all a racket. Universities increase their costs because they know that they are the gatekeeper to a wide range of career paths and people will pay. The feds keep issuing these loans because they know, thanks to people like Joe Biden, that the debt they put some financially illiterate 18 year old into is completely inescapable. Like I said, it's predatory.

This I agree with though. Now isn't the time. If anything good comes out of all of this I hope it is that people start to realize that our political system is completely broken. Once upon a time there was common ground that all but the fringe members of Congress could find themselves on. That is no longer the case.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting but maybe in a bad way. There’s no way people don’t start getting completely fed up as their money dries up.

1) Unprecedented collective bargaining powers for unions
2) Increased fuel emissions standards for airlines
3) Expansion of wind and solar tax credits
This is what they tried to put into the new bill. Has absolutely nothing to do with the fricking virus. I hate politicians

Adding bill riders that are clearly not related nor pertinent to a given legislation bill should not even be allowed. Unrelated proposed bills should have to be debated and voted on separately or added to another bill that they're actually related and pertinent to. The stimulus bill is not intended to be a bill for labor union rights, alternative energy and environmental protection tax incentives, nor is it a general federal budget bill. It's an economic stimulus/assistance bill.

You are so right and I think it should be obvious, even to Democrats in this situations. I think it should be the case for all bills, though we will never see that happen.

If true, that's despicable, but the only sources I'm seeing for this are websites like theamericanmirror .com, redstate .com, and creativedestructionmedia .com.
Edit: fully agree about unrelated bill riders.

This was tweeted out and then Crenshaw responded with this tweet.

I can confirm this. This is what Democrats torpedoed the rescue package for. This will go down as one of the most cynical, disgusting, malevolent actions in history. Millions are losing jobs while they play these games.

Families and businesses need help now to survive the China virus pandemic. But @SpeakerPelosi walked away from negotiations to write her own bill, full of absurd provisions completely unrelated to the crisis at hand. Here’s what Speaker Pelosi is demanding while Americans suffer:
1. Corporate pay statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate boards at companies receiving assistance
2. Bailing out all current debt of postal service
3. Required early voting
4. Required same day voter registration
5. 10k bailout for student loans
6. For companies accepting assistance, 1/3 of board members must be chosen by workers
7. Provisions on official time for union collective bargaining
8. Full offset of airline emissions by 2025
9. Greenhouse gas statistics for individual flights

10. Retirement plans for community newspaper employees
11. $15 minimum wage at companies receiving assistance
12. Permanent paid leave at companies receiving assistance

It is when you are of the mindset that you never waste a good crisis.

DC and the Democrats are playing games but I can tell you how this is impacting some small businesses...mine in particular.
I have a staff of 60 people. Effective today, the 40 person shop crew is going on 1 day per week of work divided into 3 crews 13 to 15 ppl each. 1/3 crew each of 3 days. All 40 will be paid for a full 40 hour week but no overtime. Up until two weeks ago the crew was averaging 60 hrs per week.
The 20 person office staff is going to a 2 day work week but being paid the equivalent of 4 days per week. 60% work reduction but 20% pay reduction.
My partner and I are cutting our own pay by 67% but we are still working 60 plus hours per week.
All of our customers have put current work on hold so nothing to bill but still paying our people what we can as long as we can. The hope is to still have our people with us if/when things open back up. At least the shop will be spotless with 40 people now on janitor service since there is nothing else to do.
Small businesses all over the country are doing the same types of things. Attempting to take care of our people as best we can. All the while, our representatives in DC are playing games with OUR money.

You think that’s bad? They also wanted to give pay raises for the House
