Which SEC coaches will be on the Warm Seat after 2008?

I think Spurrier will be if he loses to Clemson and has 5 loses.
I think Fulmer if he loses to Florida and Alabama and has 5 loses.
I think Saban if he loses to Auburn at home and has 5 loses.
Anyone think any other coach in the SEC could be added to this list? I don't see any SEC ooach getting fired after this season.

Didn't Fulmer just sign an extension last week? I doubt that he were even close to being on the hot seat, thay give him a 5 yr extension.

I seriously doubt South Carolina would ever think about firing the ol' Ball Coach.
The Coach at Vandy maybe?

The reason I called it a warm seat is all three programs expect big improvements this year. If they have 5 loses and win the games I mention then the fan base will start vocalizing concerns.
Even though Fulmer just got a long contract that does not mean a large segment of the fan base will start asking for his head. It's already started with this past season. Fans of Fulmer ran a full page ad in the Knoxville newspaper defending Fulmer to his critics this past season.
I'm not sure about Spurrier, he's not making as much money as other high paid SEC coaches. I think if Saban goes into the Auburn game with 4 loses and loses at home to Auburn a large vocal group will make themselves heard about what they are getting for around 4 million a season.

I don't think Saban will be in the warm seat in any realistic way. Sure, if we drop five games including Auburn, there will be alot of fans and quite a few boosters who will get their dander up, but the fact remains, THE MAN HAS A GUARANTEED CONTRACT. People can be upset all they want, but Saban needs time to get the ship righted. That was the purpose of the contract length and salary guarantee, and it WILL trump any call-in show bellyaching by Skeeter in Mulga.

I don't see this happening. 2009 will be the big year for Saban at Alabama. If the Tide's struggles continue through the '09 season, then Saban will begin to feel some heat. And I don't know how you can say Fulmer is on any kind of 'warm' seat seeing that he just got an extension and a raise last week. His new contract also calls for a one-year extension every time UT wins 8 regular season games.

Yes...I think Saban can bring it around. However to the old glory days...Dont think so. The SEC is crazy and no one can dominate like they did in the past (The Gators under the Ol Ball Coach included). I think Bama fans would have to accept the fact that the new equality in the SEC is only going to be more evident as the schools go after talent and good coaches. So if Bama fans can stand for a SEC West title every 3 years or so then maybe Saban will do enough.

Best statement of the day. There will be those times when one team will dominate for a few years, but fo rthe most part, talent is beginning to spread evenly throughout the SEC.

That is the most Bama fans should realistically expect out of Saban. To make the SEC West a yearly three team race between LSU, Auburn, and Ala. They need to stop with the whole "we will dominate" shite because LSU and Auburn will not magically fall off the map like they are expecting.
The real question is: Will that be their expectation level once Saban gets in 3 or 4 more recruiting classes. You've seen how they totally bash Miles for losing 6 games with Saban's players. Will they hold Saban to that same standard when Saban gets his players in? If so, Saban will not be there long at all.

Rich Brooks--Joker Phillips has already been named to replace Brooks when it is time. If the Wildcats struggle this year some might think the time may be sooner than later.
Croom--Ok they made a great improvement last year but with last year being the only year with a winning record during Croom's tenure if they were to fall back to a 4 or 5 win season could be some grumblings.
Steve Spurrier--Spurrier wants to win an SEC Championship if they don't make a serious push for it, he could retire to playing golf everyday.

With all he's done with the players and system he has to work with, Johnson's seat is pretty damn comfortable.

Agreed. Johnson is an excellent coach, but he doesn't have much to work with. Vanderbilt is a tough place to coach at and he's at least made everyone in the SEC take a second look when they have a VU game come up. Certainly not a gimme anymore.

W/ all respect,I honestly don't think that the folks in Arkansas will accept this any more. You can say what you want- I would too if I were not a Hog fan- but the hiring of Petrino was meant to send a resounding message. A clear signal that we intend to compete head-to-head against the SEC big boys. Lsu has some advantages in recruiting, but I otheriwse see no real evidence that either Aubie or Bama should be intrinsically superior to us(all things being equal.)

Sorry, but I don't see Petrino as that good of a hire. Yeah, he had some good offenses at Louisville, but his defenses were pretty bad, and you need a good defense to get by in the league. I agree with what the other poster said, Ark. will challenge for the West title every few years with no consistency.
