Personal views of Gus, his wife, his church, etc cloud people’s opinions. If he had no history with this state and you just looked at his resume he would be a home run hire.
So would Briles… A little hypocrisy there perhaps?
So would Freeze... hmmm, hmmm, //

To show what Gus has done in that period compared to where we were at.
But I don't think anyone is saying Gus hasn't been better than our recent coaches. The argument should be if he is better than the other choices currently.

People stop talking about Gus.
Every fricking time.

I get all that. Question, is this another division from NWA and LR? Or is this the whole fanbase that is split? I've heard most people in NWA still like the dude. just curious.
Some will try to tell you this is the case but there are plenty that hate or love Gus in NWA. It isn't a united thing by region.

Gus would cost Arkansas more than $1M per win.
The only other coach that has done that is Chad Morris.

I’ve addressed this is another thread: not sure how anyone can seriously compare Gus’ character to Briles. frick Art Briles.

Dude, I just replied to this
If we just looked at resumes.... well?
And another thing on Briles…
Do we really think he knew everything? I mean, I really don't know. Baylor has long had the tradition of overlooking lots with problems...

Yes I think he covered up his players’ sexual assaults. I’ll never been convinced otherwise. Seriously, frick him. I don’t want him anywhere in the football program.

I appreciate you guys providing those stats and explanations. I'm not here to stir shite. I want the best coach just like everybody else. I just dont understand the fanbase wanting Freeze or Petrino, but automatically shun Gus. I mean, come on lol.

I would take Gus over Art Briles.. and i've made myself perfectly clear how much I can't stand Gus.
Gus would also be a much better choice than Hugh Freeze.
I would rather suffer through 2 or 3 cheap years of Bobby Petrino than 5 years of extremely expensive Malzahn Mediocrity though.

But...we are suffering right now because of Petrino. What you just posted is why I may come off like an arse, I dont understand how you can even say his name.

The primary advantage of Petrino over Malzahn?
Cost and replaceability.
Gus Malzahn will want $7m per year, a large buyout and will be here a minimum of 5 seasons. 5 seasons that I expect would have a record around .500 with a 9-4 being his ceiling.
Bobby Petrino would cost us $1m to $2m with a small buyout and would be easy to replace without a dramatic ordeal. I expect he would also finish with about the same record as Gus, perhaps better.
Petrino is better with less talent than Gus is. I don't think that Gus can handle our situation talent wise.
Now.. I don't particularly want either one of them. A younger guy who has a chance to actually build the Arkansas program is what's needed.

We have the 97th ranked recruiting class right now, who fixes that quicker? Petrino or Gus? Regardless of what you guys think Gus is a name that gets recruits attention. Petrino is one that is toxic and will make recruiting 100X more difficult

Well this conversation as moved quite a bit now from where it started but Gus over Petrino for me for sure if that was the choices.

Whoever the next coach is will have a recruiting class that ends up ranked in the 40s.. and then the next few seasons will be top 25, probably in the 21 to 27 range.
The same as it has been under every single Razorback Coach since we joined the SEC.
I'm not sure if you've ever actually looked at recruiting.. but it doesn't change a ton from coach to coach. Auburn's recruiting might be slightly better under Gus.. but it wasn't a sea change.

Petrino shouldn't even be an option. I dont think it is, but dear lord if it is.

I’m 100% confident Gus would recruit better than Petrino.
