Clemson is the defending national champion and is undefeated and is ranked #5 in the initial rankings. Why? Because of the fact that they’ve played no one?

Guess you answered your own question there...

Does it really matter where they are ranked until December at this point?

Because they've earned it. They've played the hardest schedule and come through 4 real dog fights (UT, UF, AU, & UA). They're beatable, but man Joe Burrow is so much fun to watch at the wheel this season.

Where would LSU be ranked if they had lost to Bama?

How on earth can you justify ranking bama over Minnesota? They're fricking undefeated with a top 5 win.

What's even the point of having a regular season if the games don't mean anything? Might as well just pick the playoff teams in August based on who we think is the best

Imagine beating Texas, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia.

Now imagine you have to play the the team whom you've already beaten at their home stadium.

Now imagine that team has only beaten 1/5 of the teams you have.

Now imagine that team has also gotten an extra week of rest.

Now imagine you are asked to play that team head to head winner moves on.

This is why the eye test needs to be dropped.
