I mean look how well he's doing at Arizona

Year 1: 5-7
Year 2: 4-5 with games against Oregon, Utah and Arizona State left and he's already fired his defensive coordinator

Rich Rodriguez, his predecessor, had one losing season in 6 years and left him with a Heisman Candidate (Khalil Tate)

Rich Rod ran the job into the ground.

Much like Dumbo at FSU and... well, you’ll see.

Rodriguez wasn't fired due to anything that occurred on the field or in the standings.

Sumlin inherited a decent team. There enough talent to go to a bowl game in the PAC.

Tangental to this is...how huge of a bullet did Oregon dodge when Taggart left after one season?

Better watch out, Lew, the LSU mod, might anchor this thread!

Jimbo was 5-6 when he quit on his players at FSU.

That didn't stop aggy from paying him $75,000,000.00 (gairawnteed)!

Honest question. Why was RC Slocum fired? From the outside perspective, he was your best coach since at least Jackie Sherrill.

Sumlin still led aTm to their first top 5 finish in the last 55+ years and earned six straight bowl trips for aTm. He had as many bowl wins in the bowls he coached in (tied for 1st in aTm history) as aTm's winningest coach of all time (RC Slocum, who had 3 bowl wins in 14 years).

Sumlin was a good coach, so were Franchione and Chief. Queer Station just destroys careers. Jimbo will be set up when he inevitably fails so good for him.

Slocum was fired for a number of reasons.

1. 4 losses at home in one season. Prior to 2002, A&M had lost a grand total of 8 home games from 1989-2001.

2. 2nd half collapses. A&M led Texas Tech and Nebraska both by 3 scores each in the second half and lost both.

3. New athletic director and university president. Prior to 2002, Wally Groff and Ray Bowen had been protecting Slocum since 1996.

4. The perfect storm of Stoops, Brown, Leach, Saban and (in 2002) Miles eating his lunch on a yearly basis. This included only signing 1 linebacker in 3 combined classes.

Sumlin was fired, for all intents and purposes, after the epic collapse against UCLA.

Too long... simpler answer Sumlin, Franchione and Slocum were fired for the same reason Fisher will eventually be canned....

Nobody wins at Texas A&M.

Franchione was fired because he sold private medical information about his players to gamblers. The fact that he was owed any buyout showed how inept the A&M lawyers were.

Thanks for the reply. He seemed like a very ethical guy & since he has maintained relations with TAMU I’m sure it wasn’t a bad breakup. Did RC ever consider being a HC again?
