Honest Question about Bear's National Championships?

If he coached at Alabama from 1958 till 1982 and he has been credited legitimately with 6 National Championships, then why does Skrayper tag this incorrect info on his post:
UA - 30 time nat champs - 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1950, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1973, 1974, 1975 - 1980, 1991, 1992, 1994, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017
This would reflect 14, is this a lie?

Man you swallowed that hook and asked for more

I’ve no doubt that Skrayper is listing every year that any selector anywhere chose Alabama as their national champs. The six that Coach Bryant is generally credited with are AP/UPI titles only.

Not everyone realizes right away that this place is a sewer so I don't blame you for asking an honest question. It's just bait meant to get LSU posters riled up.

thank you, that's all I was asking.

I read most of the time on here cause it's hilarious how folks get so extreme about this stuff. My daughter's in the marines, been gone three years now, so some things are very trivial to me now. Wish more folks cared more about what really matters, but still fun to read the jargon.

National titles were more subjective in the past and there were more polls. So if a team finished number one in one of polls, they had a claim in the old system. This is why there are so many split championships in the past and why the system had to be tweaked over and over again until we finally got playoffs. The only fair to settle it and should've been done decades ago.

Do you expect people who come to an SEC sports message board to discuss the deeper happenings of life? What is this post?

Since, I believe I originated the NC sig trend (correct me if I'm wrong), I'd love to chime in.
It's because a lot of dumb fricks on here kept saying that Bama claimed every championship anybody had ever awarded us. So, I decided, why fight it?

That's exactly what it was. Everyone jumping on Bama and the title claims. That's what it would look like if they actually claimed every single year someone selected them.
People rag on Bama and their claims, yet dont say shite about the other teams that have shady or disputed claims. Nobody says shite about michigan. They claim 11 and only one(1997) is a poll era title I believe.
Honestly, if we would drop the bullshite 1941, I'd be happy

Someone should direct him towards the OT Lounge if he is looking for deep, philosophical discussions about life

In the 1980’s Alabama retroactively claimed many titles that were awarded years after the seasons were played. They were butt hurt that Norte Dame had more titles than they did.

They have many legitimate titles but the claims are so sketchy it deminishes the ones they earned. Their know stuck in a lie they can’t back away from. So it gets inflated every year and has become a running joke.
Alabama really didn’t earn a title until Bear got there. If you look in many of their old football programs it only list those he won. So Bear has 6 and Saban has 5. That’s 11 modern national titles which Bama should be extremely proud of. Anything before 1945 is sketchy and so long ago I don’t know why anyone would bother. And the reason I’m picking 1945 is many schools dropped football during WWII and the service academies got anybody they wanted.

Wow. I have explained this a few times, but okay.
I saw a lot of "if school X claimed titles the way Alabama did, they'd have so many!" Usually this would be followed by someone listing things like McAvery Feed National Championship for East Michigan in 1934.
There was even an Auburn fan who included every possible title for AU in their sig.
So I looked up every year SOMEONE said Alabama was the champs. Then I posted "If Alabama claimed titles like Alabama does, they would have 28" or such - I did this a few years ago.
It was to be funny and also to point that, no, the schoold doesn't claim every trophy as equal. They set a few specific polls to incorporate the great teams from prior to the AP poll era. Like the 20s teams that made the Rose Bowl.
Once you get past a certain year only AP and UPI/Coaches poll titles were counted. That's why the school doesn't claim 1966 despite being the only undeafeated and untied team in the country. Those two polls gave it to Notre Dame.

You still made up a bunch though. They aren't listed for 1936, 37, 50, 62, 63, 74, 76, 80, 91, and 94.
