How many refs total? Are they the only two? Is any other school as represented?

I didn’t see these answers in my skimming, so sorry if already answered

I don't believe refs plays favorites, but in such a high profile league, they really need to get away from hiring league alums.

Independence in fact and appearance. Both are critical imo.

Not just ex Bama alumnus but Alabama residents with business, professional or political ties or children attending Alabama as refs in SEC. Is Joe Insurance Agent in Alabama going to call Bama games without any bias? I think not.

I know the ref that knocked Garcia on his arse in 2008 against LSU was a Kentucky alum

We had won against them the week before too

I'm not saying he would or would not but it's too close perception-wise -- why you want to even be in that position?

Personally being an LSU alum, I would never want to be a ref in an LSU game. You don't have any credibility in a close call that might affect the outcome of a game. I am sick of the ref whining like any other reasonable person but I think this makes a good point.

The key is oversight, not simply requiring security clearances level background checks to make sure the ref never wore a Bama shirt. These guys are all going to be football fans.

Just review and grade the calls and fire the bottom 10-15% or everyone under a certain score every year. Sh*t would solve itself.

I personally know two SEC football officials that are on the field during games (not in the review booth, etc). They are both LSU graduates and one played football there.

They are NOT allowed to call LSU football games for that reason, period. It’s an SEC rule that applies to all officials.

I’m not saying the officiating hasn’t been shitty because there’s no doubt that it has been, and it’s not just an NCAA problem.

I have no answer as to how the problem gets solved but I wanted to point out that rule because lots of threads I’m reading on the subject basically insinuate there are biased BAMA grads calling BAMA games and that’s simply not the case. The rules do not allow it.

After Alabama got hosed by a ref in a game against Penn State where the father of a PSU player was a ref in the game?

Yeah, I can easily see why they take that shite seriously.

Good article. My question is where are Auburn fans on this? Do Auburn fans feel they get the short end of the stick?

All the schools need to vote to move the office out of Alabama and move it to another location. That needs to be done as soon as possible. Move it to a neutral site.
I’m not sure where it should be moved but far away from any campus. Atlanta or Dallas or even Shreveport. Somewhere else than Alabama. Then make a rule that sec refs are full time employees that are graded each year by an out of conference accounting agency with the lowest rated official terminated each year.

Refs are the one thing I believe should be controlled by the NCAA. In today's world, you do not need regional refs. It is easy to get anyone in the US with just a few hours of travel.

To be transparent, every official should be identified and ANY appearance of bias be made public.

That goes for every single school.

Also, if you don't meet a certain Grade yearly, you can't officiate in SEC.
