In 1992-93. Awesome seeing the arrogant Canes get beat down like that. Still remember Teague stripping that ball from Lamar Thomas.

That was the first year I really cared about college football. Amazing season all the way around. It was Bama's centennial season, first ever SECCG, which I attended with my family (aunts/uncles/cousins/brother) at Legion field. I believe face value for those tickets was around $20. And those arrogant Miami fans and players... so sweet seeing them eat their hubris and like it. Dabo Swinney was on that team, too.

That was back when most SEC fans were pulling for Bama due to the long SEC national championship drought. It was a kinder, gentler time back then.

Bill Oliver came up with a great defensive gameplan for that game. Torretta didn't know whether to shite or go blind.

Teague was incredible... but the entire defense was extraordinary to watch. Probably the greatest defense in CFB history, certainly Alabama. All 11 starters played multiple NFL seasons. My favorite D player was Sam Spade*... mostly because he had the coolest name ever. (Note: Sam Shade...typo or auto correct*.)

I was down in the quarter the night before the game. Miami players were all over the place strutting, bragging...and drinking. Miami fans were awful, and I’ve seen awful fans. I had been to the ‘88 sugar bowl Ala vs Miami, seen the U antics.. and watching Miami get whacked in the NC game, with all their fouls and dirty play, despite Rogers Redding being a total incompetent homer, was almost surreal.

I root for all SEC teams against OOC opponents.. it helps every SEC team if the rest of the country thinks we are all super teams... even root for the freaking barn and those mangy hill billies in bowls and OOC.

* Description: Samuel Richard Shade is the assistant special teams coach for the Cleveland Browns and a former American football safety. He played eight seasons in the National Football League from 1995–2002. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Redskins (Wikipedia)

"In the second quarter, I saw Torretta look over at me, and he froze for a second. I saw fear." John Copeland.

I was there and no game has even come close to how much fun it was until Al/Ga and 2nd and 26 in Atlanta.

Hate me some bama, but that play might be the greatest single play in a championship game all time.
