I wouldn't be surprised if Pruitt's fired mid-season...Tennessee's the biggest mess

Yahoo! sports article is scathing. The Tennessee program is financially broke, among other things.
A few tidbits...
"This current overmatched Tennessee staff is a curdling cesspool of Fulmer’s own creation. The final salvo of administrative malfeasance was letting Pruitt hire Jim Chaney from Georgia as offensive coordinator. Tennessee is years behind catching up to rivals like Georgia and Alabama, and attempting to play the same style on offense and eventually surpassing them is about as savvy a strategy as hiring Antonio Brown’s life coach. Pruitt made the classic mistake of so many Saban disciples, attempting to copy and paste The Process and expecting similar results."
**********
"To fire Pruitt and his staff would cost Tennessee north of $15 million, as Fulmer green-lighted three-year contracts for Chaney and defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley. We shouldn’t underestimate how broke the Vols are in the wake of cash deficits from season ticket issues and empty stadium seats, which are compounded by significant debts on facilities projects and pressures on annual revenues. To get a true start on a reboot, Tennessee would also have to fire Fulmer and hire a real athletic director – not one who wears coaching gear to work and gets NCAA wrist slaps for jumping into offensive line drills in practice.
************
Managing a hundred-million dollar budget takes savvy and experience, and Fulmer’s presence is a giddy delight to the rest of the SEC athletic directors. With Fulmer around, they know it’s highly unlikely that Tennessee will remove itself from the underachieving, sputtering punchline that it’s turned into. A non-threatening Tennessee is good news for the Floridas, Georgias and Alabamas, who all have one less game to worry about each season."

Their most prestigious alumnus is the Browns owner.

Ticket prices for the UGA-UT game are collapsing.
Stubhub has over 4,000 tickets on sale currently. The get in price is down to $58. Face is $110.

If Pruitt is fired mid-season, it would seem to suggest the guy who hired him fricked up royally.

Meh...Jim Haslam is only worth 2.9 Billion...Min Kao (co-founder of Garmin) is worth 3.8.
ETA...most prestigious probably would have been Cormac McCarthy...but he dropped out and never graduated.

how involved is Min Kao with sports and the state of Tennessee? and he got his doctorate at UT not his undergrad and also lives in Kansas.

The biggest mystery with Pruitt for me is his inability to put together a good coaching staff. The guy was an assistant under Saban for over a decade as well as Jimbo and Mark Richt. The guy's been around a lot of good coaches and was also a highly regarded coach in his own right. You would think that just by networking, Pruitt would have been able to cultivate relationships with top-notch coaches in the business so they can work for him down the line when he becomes a HC. But the quality of his coaching staff seems to be sorely lacking compared to the other schools in the conference.

Maybe Schiano will still take the job

The EE/CS building at UTk is named after Min Kao FWIW
Beautiful building. It was new when I was a freshman in '12

Pruitt won't get fired until Phil can just coach the easy games on the schedule.

The funny thing is that overall as an athletic dept, almost every sport has gotten better
Basketball has been nationally relevant for first time since Pearl, finished #10
Baseball best since 2005, made CWS
Softball finished #11
Swimming and Womens Swimming finished #13
Diving Finished 9th
Tennis ranked #13
But our traditional moneymakers, Football and Womens Bball, are horrendous shitshows with no hope for the future

Pruitt has a good staff.
His problem is that he has no cohesion.
In the business world we might say that he lacks “executive presence” and “attention to detail”.

Hell, I'd take Pruitt over Morris at this point.
Maybe he'll come here and replace Chavis as DC.

I love that UT fans give Fulmer credit for other sports in the program doing well.
Pretty good trade for the football program being in the dumps while the others succeed.
UT fans you've sold me. Fulmer deserves credit & a contract extension.

But the Fat One had nothing to do with that. He didn’t hire Barnes or the Baseball dude.
Phil is a cancer.
I may watch the 2001 SECCG today just to see his fat arse suffer with Junior and Lulu. Was it ever determined if Junior and Lulu are related the Phil. I see a resemblance.

Maybe the guys who have worked with him know him well enough to know that he isn't head coach material.
