What’s up with the way they tackle? I mean most just fly in and try a shoulder knockdown instead of just laying the wood and wrapping up! I’ve noticed a lot of this over the last few years and was just wondering.

Our new DB Analyst Marcus Carter is in charge of tackling this season

Might be that every one is afraid of targeting.. so they are turning and using the shoulder

I mean is it me or do any of you see this too?

Some of them always try to strip the ball instead of just tackling the guy.

I hope that’s the case...some act like they’re afraid of contact.

They scared, except for 15 and 5. The others aren’t big on contact

Business decisions dude, they're about to get paid to cover in the NFL for the next ten years.

I think that's something they teach them. Or at least they started to when Kirby was still there.

The targeting has a LOT to do with it. 3 players got thrown out out of the UK vs UF game last night for targeting. And with the escalating penalty for repeat offenders this year, kids are afraid to get tagged for it. I haven’t seen actual data but from watching the games, I think the targeting calls are up this year even though the actual intentional headhunting is way down. The officials are calling way too much shite.

Yesterday wasn't a demonstration of great tackling technique by the entire defense. Surtain was actually escorting a SC receiver downfield as another Bama DB was trying to get him on the ground.
We were also late in coverage on the simplest of passing plays. How many times did we allow those TEs to make those 7 or 8 yard catches in the flats? McKinney came up fast once or twice but that was about it.
Golding wasn't getting our guys lined up on plays we were seeing run over and over. Are we still subscribing to the Kirby Smart defensive philosophy of putting pressure on the QB? Leaving our defense out there for almost 90 plays is not good business Mr. Golding. Let's get off the field.
Not a great defensive game, or gameplan.

SC had some big WRs and #89 ran like he was a RB.
I think that had more to do with it than anything else.
Now for our LBs and DL? I can't explain why they were tackling poorly.

Mayden getting his ankles broken / turned around until he was dizzy on every single change of direction move SCar's ball carriers threw at him stood out more to me than guys not wrapping up, but tackling was definitely poor all around.

Shy Carter was the DB that kept using poor techniques. Probably a game he will erase from the dvr

But he can answer questions one-on-one in front of a chalkboard!

Came here to mention this.

surtain, while being a good cover guy, is obviously afraid of contact.

Saw quite a few shoulder checks and guys tackling high yesterday. Forget who, but one of our DB’s got trucked trying to tackle the tight end high.
