Mike Leach on 2017 Tennessee coaching search: ‘It was like something out of Shakespeare’

“I just said, ‘I’m in L.A. Come out here and I’m happy to talk with you.’ Which we did,” Leach said of his meeting with Currie. “Shortly after that, there was a coup d’etat at the University of Tennessee. It was a coup d’etat. You can call it what you want, and I hope I don’t hurt anybody’s feelings at Tennessee, but it’s a fact. It was like something out of Shakespeare.”
“All the sudden, they call home the AD, and en route they off him,” Leach said. “Then the king or the chancellor who orders the offing of the AD because the guards are around him demanding that it be done in order to secure a position. Shortly after that, they off the president. Then they off the very chancellor who set it all in motion allegedly. There was a whole power shift. Anyway, hopefully the ground for the good people at Tennessee is more stable now.”

All according to Phil's plan

Leach is a good example that the best way to be cool is to not give a damn about whether or not your cool. Love the guy.

I love that man!
And he teaches a class at Wazzou in the offseason. No kidding he is Professor Leach, as well as Coach Leach, and the Mad Pirate. The man even saves money on the teaching staff.

Most coaches would deny meeting with Tennessee. Leach gives an insiders view of the UTk coup.

And the class is perfect for the topic at hand.

Here’s the syllabus for the class Mike Leach may teach at Washington State
In late November, Mike Leach sent a tweet that seemed too good to be true.
“Hey WSU students, I’m thinking about teaching an evening seminar class next semester (with) my friend Senator Baumgartner,” Leach wrote. “‘Leadership Lessons in Insurgent Warfare & Football Strategy.’ Would meet once a week week for about 6 weeks. Would this be of interest?"
And now, a month and a half later, the class seems like it’s on its way to actually happening.
On Monday, Leach tweeted a prospective syllabus for this hypothetical class.
“This class explores tactics and strategy common in both Guerrilla Warfare and college football to provide a backdrop for critical thinking and leadership lessons,” reads the overview.
Each class session, lasting a planned 90 minutes, would bisect in two parts, just as the title implies: tactics and important moments in the history of Guerrilla warfare and the Air Raid offense."
Insurgent warfare with the Khmer Orange and their leader Phil Pot.

If Urban Meyer said he was interested in coming to Tennessee but only if he could bring Schiano with him, every Vol fan would still give their left nut to get him.

LSU fans 2016: "no one can frick up a coaching transition like LSU and Joe Alleva."
UTk 2017: "hold my beer."

Leach's personality & philosophy is so different from Fulmer's no way Phil was gonna let the Pirate bring his winning ways & offensive show to Rocky top.
I hope Phil continues as AD as long as he desires to continue the bad karma he's created.

Shouldn't really surprise anyone. Fulmer is very familiar with coup d'etats. He did one back with Majors, and he likely was the mastermind behind this one last year.

He needs to be in the SEC.

I can’t wait for SC to fire Ray Tanner then Will Muschamp and then hire Leach.

What happened at Tennessee and is still going on at Tennessee is much worse than what's been going on @USC. UT's a big rival, but I feel for them...a little. I'd hate for that to occur @UGA or USC.

He is one of the best in the game but I think there is a big reason he hasn't gotten a major gig yet. He doesn't "play the game" well. He is a frick you I do as I want type, which probably won't sit well with huge athletic departments and boosters who want their asses kissed.
