Let me introduce you to what SOG already knows.
1) football fans like to travel
2) it is easier to schedule a home and home than a neutral site game
3) because your opponent will actually have a physical advantage in the game over your team.
I agree with #1 and #3 but don't necessarily agree with #2.
Either way, neutral site games suck and I think we are all glad they are going away. They were interesting for the first few years because of the novelty and the different year to year matchups they brought, but they've more than run their course.

Yes the thing that 13 other schools refuse to do. It is truly amazing how fricking stupid Louisianans are.
Damn. Alabama gets to play its game with Tennessee every year, at the expense of a sensible conference schedule for everyone else. Yet it doesn’t get prime time TV slots for its body bag games and its fans have a complete meltdown.
#2 team In the country and a Heisman front runner at QB, and they still have to bitch and moan about something so trivial. It is truly amazing how fricking stupid Alabamans are.

That is the entire point of being in a conference - to play games against teams in that conference.
You know that is not true by history of conference play in our conference and adding more teams in the conference this making it more difficult to schedule everyone.
Scheduling everyone quickly wasnt the point in the 60s. It wasnt the point in the 90s. And it isnt the point with 14 teams. Why are you so dishonest? This conference in it's current format is about making money.
A 9th conference game eliminates 7 televised games per year from the SEC TV package. It eliminates 7 home games per year for the conference (and businesses needing those home games).

That's it. No tin foil hat thinking there.
Saban stated himself that neutral sites help his recruiting. Why?
Playing UGA 60 miles from Atlanta. Playing Mizzou 125 miles from St Louis/Kansas City.
The same principles apply.
SOG, you are one of the smarter posters on here. Why does Saban advocate for 9 conference games?
Because he loves the Bama fans?
Because he cares about the TV package?
Use some common sense.

Yes.

No, actually, it was pretty damn easy to schedule them. The CFA bowl committee and the Cowboys called us (not UGA) every single year and offered more money than we make in 3 home games to come visit them, and they even found all the opponents for us (until every team in the ACC except one finally said "no"). MUCH easier than finding home and home games.

This AD has scheduled several home and home games. But real ones. Not Georgia fricking Tech in your own home town where your fans outnumber theirs in their own stadium these days.

1 and 3 make #2 true.
Again, you (as a bama fan) are only looking at the bama side.
1) college football fans like to travel. That includes the opposing team who would like to treat their fans with a trip to tuscaloosa
3) homefield is real. Every team in the country would love to beat Bama. Every team in the country likes their odds much better at home than a neutral site.
You can figure out that 1+3=2.
Hell... you've stated yourself that you see instant momentum with the home and homes that you are scheduling.

Lol now who is missing the point of the thread? I do get it, the UGA fans don’t have a point (or a championship). Bama plays noon games for their crappy OOC games because no one watches Alabama when they play crappy OOC games. It’s honestly that simple.

Did I say historically that is how it worked? No.
That's what people want now. It's not 1960 anymore. The coaches aren't scheduling the conference games in a smoke filled room anymore.
quote:
Saban stated himself that neutral sites help his recruiting.
He said that in 2008. He hasn't said that in years, and he's decided to stop playing those games in places like Atlanta and Dallas and Orlando going forward. He used to tell people those games were for recruiting - he now only talks about them in terms of kids playing in atmospheres that prepare them for the SECCG and Playoff games (aka NFL stadiums)
So Saban wants to add games in Athens (near Atlanta) while simultaneously stopping playing games in Atlanta (actual Atlanta) moving forward. It just doesn't add up.
I don't think he thinks that recruiting is the same in 2019 as it was in 2008, and I think Kirby agrees. Playing big games that kids see is more important in this day and age than playing near a kid. Kids don't care about that stuff anymore, or at least not NEARLY as much as they did even 10 years ago. It's not as important because the world isn't as regional.
So no, I don't think it's common sense. I think common sense dictates that Saban clearly sees big games that kids want to watch and see on TV as more important than playing games in their back yard - which explains the home and homes and the desire to add another conference game, as well as the desire to go to all P5 games.

What opponent would that be?
All of them. Bama doesn't gain more yards per play at home than on the road? Bama doesn't give up more yards per play on the road than at home?
Jesus. Welcome to college football 101. Bama fans really are oblivious.

Alabama told LSU that they could play more night games if Alabama could keep lowly Tennessee permanent while LSU keeps mighty gators permanent
