So the NMSU game is set for a daytime kick in the middle of 100 degree weather. Apparently the official word is the kickoff time cant be moved due to TV. Cecil Hurt pushed back against it, causing Byrne to tweet back...

IMO, Hurt has a point here.

I made the first reply to Cecils first tweet. These day games with these opponents is a terrible decision and not the fault of TV contracts.

It is absolutely the fault of the SEC TV contract.

The problem is the other AD's not having the balls to take night games away from LSU.

I mean, it is what it is. These are the games folks like me with season tickets generally would chose to take their kids to, spend a day on campus, etc (where the football game is secondary to being there).

There is a 0.00% chance I'm doing that on a day like Saturday. I'm not the only one.

So, I expect the typical fan-lashing after the game, but whoever does that (including the head coach) can KMA.

Cecil with the bodyblow.

Its bullshite, but I put the blame more on our AD for not stepping up. I also put some of the blame on a past AD for contributing to this shitty schedule.

Of course if the roles were reversed, LSU fans would be claiming conspiracy by the gumps in the SEC office.

LSU’s tradition is to play at night. Ours is to survive a crucible of early season inferno games. Time to renegotiate.

Why can't we just go back to playing Southern Miss or Houston at 1130 AM at Legion Field on JP and calling it a day?

And that’s the point! The city of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and the University should ban together and tell ESPN/ABC/SEC Network enough is enough! Without Alabama’s product, you lack for content. And Alabama refuses to have our kickoff times dictated to us for television despite common sense and safety for the fans and players. Fans cannot and will not show up for a game that endangers their health which means lost revenue for the cities, businesses, and the school. Revenue that TV doesn’t account for. Stop being stupid and acquiescent about this. Nobody in the SEC should have to play before 4 PM in September. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already where a player, coach, or official has collapsed from the heat. Saban bitches about fannies in the seats and about people leaving early then they do this ridiculous shite and schedule the game in a convection oven.

Doesn't the SEC NW have 2 or 3 channels they can use? Yes, they do. Their crew that's doing our game isn't doing another one that night. So, they could easily broadcast this week's game at night.

All it takes is Saban telling him we aren't playing during the day and it will get done.

I have two SEC Alternate channels that I’ve never seen used. They just play a constant loop of the SEC Now theme. Seems like a real waste.

Of course there is a lot of waste with the SEC Network....including their weekday afternoon programming from 2-6.

The alternates used to show stuff back in the first year or so, but I can't remember anything on there since then.

And agree - the SECN is just basically a waste outside of games and a few random programs.

I can understand fans' frustration but many other fans complain about night games because it makes them so late getting back home.

It's one thing for one group, another for another group and so on. It's not easy finding the right or preferred thing.

They use those to show 'Other' sports, especially women's games. I have seen a few some time back.

I think it should be our tradition not to have fans and players collapsing from heat related health issues.

One of those is an inconvenience and the other is a health hazard.

Fun fact. 12% of the existence of the SEC network has been dedicated to Paul Finebaum
