Have 3 guns. One upstairs, one downstairs and one in the car. Just got my concealed weapons permit and trying to decide on whether I should purchase and carry another 22 or a Derringer. Anyone ever own a Derringer or fired one? What do you think of the gun?
WOuld you think a Derringer is a little more powerful than a 22 or no? Looking for serious opinions.TIA

You can’t aim a derringer. You pretty much have to be point blank to hit and you still haven’t accomplished a lot if you did hit. You are just as likely to get it knocked away. Get a small frame single stack Glock 9mm and be through with it.

Honestly, the best gun for me won't be the best gun for you. My hands are large and a smaller gun is not the correct choice for me. Glock 21 is what I carry, and 2 of them Find a gun shop that has a range and try them out. That will be the ultimate answer to this question.
Power isn't everything. I could carry twin 10mm, in the exact same frame size, but the recoil difference between the .45 is noticeable on shots 2 on. Placement, placement, placement. That is the biggest key in a self defense weapon. Fire what you're more comfortable with.
In my case the 10mm is way more expensive than the .45, but bullet cost shouldn't be a factor in the calibers you're looking at. Practice until you feel proficient, regardless of your firearm choice.
Probably not a direct answer, but it's the best advice I could give you.

Don’t leave a gun in your car.
There are tons of carry options that are much better than a Derringer. The Outdoor Board would be a better place to post this question. I recommend the Sig P938 (9mm) or Sig P238 (.380).
If you don’t have a lot of experience with guns, look at a compact S&W revolver in .38 Special.

No. If price is an issue, it would be hard to beat a surplus Makarov 9x18mm ..aka .380. Reliable, indestructible, cheap ammo etc... much more efficient than a .22 or an unwieldy derringer type firearm.
My wife's ( smallish hands ) concealed carry is a Walther PPK.
Go to a good range where you can test fire different models. The people there are glad to help.
So, to sum this up, in my opinion .. avoid a derringer like the plague.
Good luck !

I’ve got one in .38 Special. Might hit a sheet of plywood at 7 paces. Would never consider it for carry. A spare magazine would be a better back up.

I think Rick is in his 70's and may no longer have the ability to pull that 22 year old tail. If you had Rick move in, where would you put him? Putting him upstairs may be hard on his knees and putting him in a car could be bad on a hot day.
Not sure what Rick carries but I do know he has been busted in the Atlanta airport for carrying a loaded gun.
