Surprised no one has mentioned men’s golf in this thread. SEC has had a pretty good run past 20 years with 7 NCs. Thought ACC would do well in the Country Club sports but not so much.
Forgot about golf.
Virginia has done well in men's tennis, UGA has won a couple.
Florida, Vandy and Georgia have all won women's titles. Florida several.
It's all pretty neat when you start breaking it down and showing some conference pride.
There is a lot more to D1 college sports than just the big 3 men's sports.

How am I wrong? Did you even bother looking at the seasons that were given? The 1994 season basketball championship is played in 1995, 1996 season is played in 1997, 1997 season is played in 1998, etc. Same for football.
The name of it is 1996 ncaa national championship game because that's the year that it was played but it's for the 1995-96 season.
Just like in football the national championship is for example the 2013 season National championship in football is called 2014 BCS National championship game but it's for the 2013 season not the 2014 season.
Same in basketball it may be called the 1996 ncaa men's basketball national championship because that's the year it was played but it isn't for the 1996 season it's for the 1995 season which ended in 1996.

Ok, lemme again refer you to the official NCAA title page above.
See Kentucky?
What year does it say beside their name? What year, according to the official NCAA site, does it say Kentucky won the D1 men's basketball national championship? (Or just ask some of the Cat fans around here.)
LSU won baseball that season and Florida won football.
The SEC swept in 1996 plus Tennessee women won the women's basketball championship.
It was a big deal at the time, trust me.
Anyways, think about it and thanks for putting in all the work on your list. I get stuff wrong all the time friend.

Do you think the 2014 BCS National championship game is for the 2014 season? It's not it's for the 2013 season.
Likewise the 1996 men's basketball national championship shows Kentucky but that's for the 1995 season not the 1996 season. The national championship for the 1996 season is called the 1997 ncaa men's basketball national championship.
Thanks I try. I'm not much of a sports fan outside auburn sports. But no one had really answered the OP's question so I thought I'd look it up.
I'm not mad about someone saying I got something wrong if I'm wrong I'll change it but I definitely wasn't wrong about that .
it's confusing I know but the football and basketball nattys aren't played until the next year not the same year as the regular season.
So the 1996 basketball championship game is called the 1997 National championship because that's the year it's played. Likewise the 2014 bcs championship in football is for the 2013 season not the 2014 one.
Another example the basketball championship that just ended in April is called the 2019 ncaa men's basketball national championship but it's for the 2018 season not the 2019 season.
Am I making more sense now?

I'll try one more time ... this straight from KY basketball wiki. LINK
quote:
The Untouchables and Championship Number Six (1996)
Starting in 1996, Kentucky would put together a string of Final Fours with help from 9 future NBA players. The "Untouchables" as they were nicknamed, would only lose twice, to Final Four bound UMass Minutemen (coached by current Kentucky coach John Calipari) and Mississippi State. It was with their overwhelming talent and chemistry that would win Kentucky their sixth national title in the 1996 NCAA Tournament, Kentucky's first NCAA championship in 18 years.
The Unbelievables (1997)
The following year, Pitino's Kentucky team made it back to the national title game, losing to Arizona in overtime in the finals of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. Pitino's fast-paced teams at Kentucky were favorites of the school's fans. It was primarily at Kentucky where he implemented his signature style of full-court pressure defense. By the end of the Pitino era, Kentucky went from banned from the post season to going to three of the last five Final Fours and five of the last six Elite Eights. For this the 1997 team was dubbed the "Unbelievables" for taking a team that was not expected much of to return the Wildcats back to the championship game for a second time.

I'll try one more time as well but it seems neither of us will be on the same page so we'll agree to disagree.
The 1997 basketball championship/tournament is for the 1996 season which ended in 1997 that's why it's called the 1997 ncaa men's basketball national championship/tournament.
Kentucky lost to AZ 84-79 making AZ national champions for the 1996 season. LINK
Kentucky won the 1996 men's basketball national championship beating Syracuse 76-67 to become champions for the 1995 season not the 1996 season. LINK
Like I said before the national championship isn't played the same year the season begins. Only baseball and softball are like that.
Virginia won the 2019 men's basketball national championship beating Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime becoming champions for the 2018 season not the 2019 season.

UK had 29 PF to 16 for AZ
Turner was getting mugged every time up the floor and foul were not called yet he fouled out. Simon and Bibby had 1 foul each. F*ck the NCAA for being hell bent not to get UK the 3peat

I'm not going to say they're wrong because they are indeed correct 96 is the year they won the national championship game, but it was for the 1995 season not the 1996 season.
AZ won the national championship in 1997 but it was for the 1996 season.
My reply to op wasn't the year they won those championships in rather what season they counted toward.
Like I said we'll agree to disagree

You do know basketball straddles years so both are included but the NCAA is for the latter half
1995 - 1996 season is considered 1996
1996 - 1997 season is considered 1997
1997 - 1998 season is considered 1998
HTH
1995 - 1996 season is considered 1996
1996 - 1997 season is considered 1997
1997 - 1998 season is considered 1998

I know that's what I said in one of my replies to scrooster. Kentucky was national champions for the 1995-96 season so I counted that for 1995. AZ was the champion for the 1996-97 season so I counted that toward the 1996 season, etc. scrooster had an issue with me doing that though .
Posted on 6/25/19 at 10:35 pm to AUFan2015
Here's my reply that scrooster has an issue with. I have the 1995-96 national champions for the 1995 season which is Kentucky.
1996-97 is AZ which I counted toward 1996.
1997-98 is Kentucky which I counted for 1997, etc.

Baseketball doesn't follow the normal tournament routes. They go by a point system like soccer and then they do a round robin and finally best of 5. That's what makes baseketball so great. Literally the best of both worlds
