"Nick Saban no fan of no-huddle offenses, asks 'Is this what we want football to be?'"

Nick Saban, October 3rd, 2012.
Now, my play-by-play numbers only go back so far, but leading up to those comments (and through 2012) Alabama huddled over 90% of the time under Saban.
Since then, from 2013-present, Alabama’s offense has huddled fewer than 50% of the time, peaking in 2017 when they huddled right at 30% of the time.
So what says the rant? Is Nick Saban a hypocrite? Does he not care about the safety of players and the fairness for defenses anymore? Or is this just an example of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em?”

Saban is a master of misdirection so not surprised at the quote. Said it about the time he started implementing more of an uptempo style.

Pretty much this. He saw the advantages it gives offenses. He didn't like it, but he couldn't change it. So he changed.

He made that quote just a few months after shutting out LSU on 1/9/12.
Why would he have wanted offenses to change from what LSU offered? Too easy

It's was no surprise before that that Saban doesn't care about his players safety and needs rules and refs to favor him or he will end up alot of Clemson, Oklahoma, Utah, ULM, etc type games.

Everything is not black and white. Since Saban said those things I'd assume he meant it but once he realized it would not change do you think he's going to risk not winning games with all of that pressure he's constantly under? He adjusted. He changed. Something Les Miles couldn't do.
I'm grateful for Miles, though. Blindly running the ball with Fournette into that Bama brick wall was pretty satisfying to watch. 8 in a reaux.

It’s disappointing to read that Saban is whining like this.
When Spurrier came into the league defensive minded HCs and D-coordinators never whined. They adapted. Small, faster, LBs and DE. Bigger stronger safeties. CBs that can play man.
Nick ... get with the program.

I don't fault Saban for this. He's evolving bc it's required, but that doesn't mean he has to be a fan of it.
Credit to him for putting his personal opinion aside to achieve success.

He was specifically talking about the "fastball" offenses that are hurry up no huddle (hence the no time to line up part).

Saban didn't want to change. Kiffin had to drag him kicking and screaming into modern offensive football.
Saban came to resent him for that and pushed him out.

And he’s still using his philosophies today.
