one defenses were Stansbury kryptonite in those days.
2 Things will always define the Stansbury Era:
--Baffled by Zone Defenses ,like a mule staring at a new gate
-- Letting 1 hot shooter beat MSU. It was maddening to watch

This is true and we were the favorite in 3 of the round of 32s that we lost. Stans couldn't close out games. He was not a good gameday coach but good off the court. It was so infuriating to see him get out coached consistently. He is too nice of a guy to survive these days in the SEC. I appreciate all he did though and i'd gladly take him crappie fishing.

FUN FACT: for all his accomplishments at State, Rick Stansbury never took a MSU team to the sweet sixteen as a head coach. He did get there on Richard Williams' coattails however.
Williams needed Stansbury to accomplish the runs in 1995 and 1996 though. Outside of those two runs, Williams was a worse postseason coach (especially in the SEC tournament) than Stansbury.

How many times did we crap out on the first day of the SEC Tournament? Hard to be a Bulldog, man

The good news is no matter how we come out today, I am 100% confident we will perform better than Auburn in the 2018 Tournament. With all the winning and success I have enjoyed over the years I sometimes use tools to try to keep myself humble. My goback for this past year has been watching this video of the Clemson / Auburn game. One of the saddest days in SEC history. Auburn Highlights - Clemson vs Auburn

We were always one and done in the late 80's and early 90's, even in 1991, and usually in blowout fashion.

You guys are correct. My bad. I was thinking of Butler but it was red hot Xavier that got us as a 2 seed.

They both left scars

It seemed like they didn't miss a shot for the first 10 minutes of the second half. They hit a really long (around mid-court) three to take the lead at the end of the first half and stayed hot for the rest of the game.

Yep thats what I remember as well..they had two legit, good size guards. They both ate us alive.

it never helps when the game plan was always "get a lead, then try and dribble it out".
