This thread is dedicated to all of tSECr friends of Texas A&M University who’ve been so supportive these past several years when it comes to weighing-in on our schedule. Hopefully my title is descriptive enough that those SECRanters who aren’t interested in the topic will simply cruise on past the thread without feeling the need to comment on it’s relevance and/or significance in their lives .

(*Note: Per the original source for this article, Austin Statesman, I believe CBS’s title is supposed to be “renew,” not “review.” I just copied/pasted)

——-
Anyway, with the Texas legislative session recently kicking off, both Texas A&M University and UTex presidents met on Friday (preparing for the annual Orange & Maroon Legislative Day) and were asked about various issues salient to both universities. The renewal of the Aggies/Longhorns football game was one of those issues.

In a nutshell: It all comes down to scheduling.
quote:

UT President Gregory L. Fenves and A&M President Michael K. Young said Friday both schools would love to renew their battles on the gridiron, but scheduling barricades have made that next to impossible.

quote:

“There are some real practical and contractual issues with scheduling non-conference games,” Fenves said. “The SEC is different from the Big 12. We have non-conference games scheduled 10 years out.”

Both Fenves and Young are "supportive of renewing it" and have instructed their ADs to "figure out a plan" and get things moving.

“You have to get the weekend that coincides and works together,” Young said. “It is complicated. Our schedules don’t match very well. They have non-conference games in the beginning; we have ours interspersed more throughout the season. All of this makes it very hard to schedule.”

What does it all mean, in terms of actionable steps?
No clue.
But both presidents want the game back.

It's very simple. Until the current contract between A&M, Arkansas and Jerry Jones runs out and is NOT renewed, (Contract ends after the 2024 season), A&M is not going to put themselves in a position where they have fewer than 6 home games in a season.

So if both Fenves and Young can convince Jones to nullify the contract, making the next Arkansas/A&M game at Kyle Field (last on campus game was at Reynolds), then MAYBE it happens before 2025.

Looks to me like aggot Pres is just paying lip-service to renewing the rivalry but will play that "scheduling conflict" game for the next decade.

There's a major schedule conflict for at least another 6 seasons and it's called Arkansas.

The translation is... Texas threw a hissy fit when A&M bolted and leaned on everyone else in the Big 12 to black ball the Aggies to "punish" them.

A few years later and while A&M hasn't set the college football world on fire they are doing just fine thank you and have a big money rivalry game to end the season. Texas also hasn't set the college football world on fire but they are stuck with a rotating rivalry week opponent to finish the season. TCU, Texas Tech, and Kansas over the last three years. Not exactly games that are prime time football.

The Whorns really need A&M back on their schedule.

You realize Fenves is UTex’s President, right?
The “10 years” comment was made by him, regarding the way the B12 formulates it’s OOC schedule.
And yes, there are legitimate scheduling challenges.
But thanks for your input.

Isn't that what I said? There will be a "schedule conflict" for the next decade. The aggot Pres. is clearly just playing lip service while presenting obstacles as a reason for it not to happen.

Let us type it slowly so you understand.

Fenves is the t.u. President.

Young is the A&M President.

She quoted FENVES.

By your logic, we will now attribute everything Fenves says to Boren.

They should play it the first game of the year. Would be a nice way to open after building up hate for each other all off season.

It’s so cute how Sooners now spring to the defense of their Texas overlords at every opportunity. Aren’t y’all rivals? Jealous that you were left behind while A&M and Mizzou upgraded?

"They have non-conference games in the beginning; we have ours interspersed more throughout the season. All of this makes it very hard to schedule.”

A&M has non-con games early in their season pretty much every year. Recently, UCLA and now Clemson. We renewed our series with Nebraska. Stop being pussies.
