We drove the ball fine -- four drives to 1st and goal but we blew it with the play calling down there -- 3 points total

I think the biggest issue was us losing staff, particularly WR coach Napier
I'm not sure too if recruiting coaches got a little complacent because it was "assumed" he was raised a Bama fan etc and Dabo's staff snuck in there, talked him into taking a visit and impressed him

built a relationship with a kid and show him... look Bama churns thru coaches like a 300 lb milk maid churns... and here at Aubarn with a lake, we have almost no turn... 3 years Bama loses 20, CU loses 3...
Come here and play for the same staff all your years.
and many times kids look for that stability in their lives (whether they have it at home or not)
Ross was a terrible loss, much like if Julio would have gone to OSU

The only thing I will say about this is frick you morons who said that big receivers are not necessary because we have tiny guys who are fast. You are all goddamn imbeciles.
You know exactly who the frick you are.

Our WRs are fine. If Clemson had our WRs tonight the result would've been the same.

I disagree. There are times when you need a big body. We don't have one, and some of us think it is stupid to have a big receiver. They were adamant about this last month.
If Ross destroying our secondary does not show you how stupid that is, then you're not watching much football.

I posted this in another thread and wanted to add it here. I’m not sure it was all on Tosh..
From Sabans presser..
“ Well, I thought that if we were going to have an opportunity, the best way to defend them is to rush four guys and play different kinds of coverages, and when we rushed four guys, we didn't get a lot of pressure. Their offensive line did a good job. He was very comfortable in the pocket, had time to throw, and we didn't get him covered very well in the back end at times....”
Sounds to me like Saban had a lot to do with this game planning on defense. Not sure all blame can be on Tosh. Saban promoted Tosh and knew he had to step in.. its been awhile since Saban has had to do that. Might be Saban was rusty too.. he is human. Look at the fake field goal. Saban thought our DBs needed help covering and it was a mismatch so he kept more back and rushed less..
“ But particularly in this case, never really ever got comfortable with what we needed to do to win this game, especially on defense, especially the match-ups we had in our secondary versus their receivers. That was something that was kind of bothering me going into the game, and as the game unfolded, it worked out that those match-ups were a big difference in the game...”
Clemson followed Miss State’s game plan... blitz off the corner and throw in delay blitzes up the middle every so often. Confused our line and Tua. We still were gashing them on the run.. but for some reason we didn’t take what they were giving us again. It haunted us all year. The check downs were there and the run game was working. I feel The beginning of the season killed us with it being so easy. We got use to scoring fast and easy. Grinding drives just didn’t happen much. We should have slowed the game down like we did late in the first. 2 more of those long scoring drives and we would have had Clemson pushing instead of us. Their D line was tired after the first and we didn’t capitalize. We never really changed our D either.. for once Saban was scared putting our DB on a island and safeties had to stay in coverage.. The match ups were bad.. Ross is too big for a 50/50 ball.

I only watched the first 3 quarters, but I didn't see him make any catches because he was big.

It was my understanding that the Jalen offense led to several receivers (including Ross) to go elsewhere.

You think our secondary could hold up any better against our receivers?
And we have a big receiver on the bench.

I have to wonder why Saban didn't have a plan B or plan C when his first plan wasn't working. His first plan was doing nothing but letting the QB get comfortable and tiring out the defense.
Would have been better to let them have quick scores.

His Plan B and C was hamstrung with Saivion out there. His Plan B and C was hamstrung with ILB play. The defense consists of dependent parts.

If the defense is so dependent on a healthy 5* at every position playing like 5*, then the defense likely needs to be changed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not challenging you, it's just frustrating that the cupboards are essentially bare even with one top recruiting class after another.
I know that Clemson has elite talent too, but this defense struggled against pretty much everybody.

We gifted them a pick TD and pissed away 25 points on four drives where we reached 1st and goal but only scored 3 points total. 7 + 25 = 32. We lost by 28. And we threw a pick in the red zone on another drive. We could've (should've) won that game.
I was very disappointed in our defensive plan and calls. Venables did a great job with the variety of disguised blitzes. We were very vanilla, rushing 3 most of the time and showing our blitzes when we did call them. We made it easy for Clemson's offense. Our goal-to-go offensive play calling was very bad.
This loss was not like the final score. And it falls much more on a poor job of in-game coaching than on the players or anything else, imo.

Maybe playing 3 straight top 5 teams in a row finally caught up with Bama.
I don't remember Bama doing that before.
