It is absolutely negligent to run 8-10 run plays a game into outnumbered fronts just for the sake of balance when you are even outside and have guys like we have with a QB who can get it them accurately and in stride every time.
It is not negligent if you are trying to develop another part of your offense. Runnning against outnumbered fronts isn't a fait accompli - we've seen the 2012 OL do it and even Stanford teams do it.
What has kept recent Alabama teams from realizing their potential has been the reliance on "taking what the defense gives you".
I remember when Blake Sims was looking down Amari Cooper since he was always 5 yards open at the detriment of building other parts of the offense. When the offense ran into a team where Cooper wasn't 5 yards open (OSU), we didn't have anything in the passing game to fall back on.

His Plan B and C was hamstrung with Saivion out there. His Plan B and C was hamstrung with ILB play. The defense consists of dependent parts.
If the defense is so dependent on a healthy 5* at every position playing like 5*, then the defense likely needs to be changed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not challenging you, it's just frustrating that the cupboards are essentially bare even with one top recruiting class after another.
I know that Clemson has elite talent too, but this defense struggled against pretty much everybody.
re: What % of the blame goes to the coaches?

100% of the blame goes to the coaches, but not all in this game.
Both the offense and the defense regressed during the year and the coaches had no answer.
Saban was in a tough spot having to promote Tosh or lose him. Kirby is recruiting so well that he didn't have much of a choice.

Saban: Well, I thought that if we were going to have an opportunity, the best way to defend them is to rush four guys and play different kinds of coverages, and when we rushed four guys, we didn't get a lot of pressure.
I have to wonder why Saban didn't have a plan B or plan C when his first plan wasn't working. His first plan was doing nothing but letting the QB get comfortable and tiring out the defense.
Would have been better to let them have quick scores.

QB: Tua, Jalen, Mac, Tualia Tagovailoa 4*, Paul Tyson 4*
If Jalen is still on the team as a QB, then the team will likely regress.
Most of the offensive problems stem from Tua throwing 4 quick touchdowns before the defense has settled in and then either "taking the air out the ball" or turning it over to Jalen.
Tua needs development. Instead of turning it over to Jalen, let Tua use games to develop his underneath game, delayed blitz recognition/countermeasures and not holding the ball too long.
Trying to find opportunities for Jalen gets in the way of all of that. It also take reps and development away from the other QBs

How did bama not get him?
It was my understanding that the Jalen offense led to several receivers (including Ross) to go elsewhere.

This. I can't remember the last time Bama had LBers that were this bad at reacting to a play.
That has to fall on the coaching. It was hard to miss for anyone who watched Training with the Tide that Tosh was over his head. (Really wasn’t impressed with Locksley either)

But Tua does predetermine a little too much and doesnt take the checkdown enough. I saw 2 or 3 plays where the RBs were wide open for a checkdown 1st down and he didnt get it to them.
I think that Saban’s handling of the QB situation led to this. When Alabama got big leads, Saban either pit Jalen in or “took the air out of the ball”.
Those situations would have been a great time to give Tua work on these sort of issues.

I could tell in his halftime interview that they didn’t know what to adjust.
Unfortunately true. Saban mentioned that Clemson was just copycatting things that other teams used successfully against Alabama.
I think Saban is frustrated that his assistant coaches are essentially helpless when it comes to game planning and coaching players up. Essentially Trooper Taylors.

Saban's tendency to "take the air out of the ball" during the season likely contributed to this.
It prevented the team from developing a killer mentality and led to developing bad habits.

Regarding Locksley: Saban does need to learn to let coaches go that take other jobs. I know it has worked out ok here and there in the past, but most in spite of that coach staying on.
I have never seen a more unprepared team and I think that is why Saban isn't even mad.

I think that Saban was pressured to promote and keep Tosh because of how well that Kirby is recruiting at UGA.
Tosh and some of the other defensive coaches are obviously over their head.
Hopefully Saban will take over more of the defense next year while Tosh learns.

I understand the idea of knocking QBs for incompletions that should have been interceptions and not giving them credit for screen/pop passes that turn into 60 yard TDs, but completing a 40 yard pass to a guy who doesn't have a defender within 10 yards of him really shouldn't be viewed much differently.
Any semi-competent college QB should be able to make that throw with relative ease.
I'm a big fan of analytics and more insightful stats, but analytics works much better for baseball and even basketball than football. The "graders" are having to make educated guesses on assignments and the intent of the play and that leads to a lot of subjective results.
Baseball has a concept of "Value over Replacement Player" (VORP) - it was developed to address exactly the problem that you described earlier (throwing to wide open receivers)

You're not wrong, but I think you can see in Jalen's play this year that he has improved, when he regressed from '16 to '17.
I think the jury is still out that. Jalen always looked great against average defenses - and was even offensive player of the year in 2016.
I agree with the others - #13 is the reason for the offensive improvement.

It's not just the money - it's his career and livelihood.
It is foolish for a person to value "having fun in college" over furthering your career.
It's one thing to stay to improve your career prospects by spending your year learning, growing and improving, but not for companionship.
Kelly Washington at UT is a prime example of this.

Yeah, never heard anything like that before - always assumed they were all the same. Check out about 30 secs into the interview - the reporter asks Tua if the wind affected his accuracy and that's when Tua mentions the slope of the field.

My primary takeaway is that Danielson should stop trying to officiate the game.
I like Danielson a lot - I think his insightfullness is second only to Herbstreit, but his attempts to officiate the game just feeds into conspiracy theories.

Stats “lie” all the time - there are myriad books written on the subject.
“Stats” are meaningless without context and a sophisticated enough understanding to perform proper analysis.
There is an adage in the data science world - “anyone who is competent enough to interpret data is competent enough to mislead with it”
For example, according to the stats Jalen has a higher completion percentage than Tua this year - does anyone think that Jalen is a more accurate passer than Tua?
