Bobby Bowden wrote the book on how to get respect...

...before Danny White was born.
In 1976, Bowden inherited a FSU team that had just gone 0-11, 1-10, and 3-8. Bowden wanted to get FSU into the arena with the big boys. Did he whine and complain about a "broken system"? Did he demand home-and-home games with the powerhouses of the day? No.
1980 @Nebraska
1981 @Nebraska
1985 @Nebraska
1986 @Nebraska
The next time Nebraska comes to Tallahassee will be the first time.
1976 @Oklahoma
The Sooners never traveled to Tallahassee until 2011.
1979 @LSU
1980 @LSU
1981 @LSU
1982 @LSU
1983 @LSU
1989 @LSU
LSU's first game in Tallahassee was 1990.
1981 @Ohio State
1982 @Ohio State
The Buckeyes have never played in Tallahassee.
1981 @Notre Dame
1993 @Notre Dame
1994 Notre Dame in Orlando
The Irish finally went to Tallahassee in 2002.
1986 @Michigan
1991 @Michigan
Michigan has never been to Tallahassee.
Check out this string of 5 consecutive road games in 1981. FSU played only 5 home games, and 6 road games.
@Nebraska
@Ohio State
@Notre Dame
@Pitt (#3 in the country)
@LSU
There were other teams besides Notre Dame that FSU played 2 away and 1 NS (Orlando, Jacksonville), like Arizona State.
Danny White is 38 years old. Bowden game him the blueprint for how to achieve national respect and become one of the elites. All White has to do is swallow his pride and follow it.

Any Cliffs Notes to this?

Yeah. See all those @s? That's all you need to know.

Yeah it took a lot of lumps and 15 years of that exposure and barnstorming to gain elite status. UCF has no desire for that kind of growing pain, they just want to claim it all now based on nothing

That took balls of steel. I’d like to know FSU’s record against some of those teams back then. Probably pretty good.

Danny White appears to be an entitled brat. He's out of his league. At least 10 years younger than many ADs.

Yeah the landscape then is the same as now lol. Nothing like going on the road and losing a shite ton of money when you’re already on a G5 revenue budget. Good idea. Thanks for sharing. Danny White is a Notre Dame grad, I’m sure he thinks highly of Alabama anyway.

They were 6-5 in 1981, but they won at Ohio State and Notre Dame on back-to-back Saturdays. They were 11-1 in 1979 and 10-2 in 1980.

What the frick kind of budget do you think FSU had? No conference affiliation, no TV contract...nothing.
You just started following college football when UCF's win streak started, didn't you? It's ok...you can admit it.

Are you trolling the Gators or what?

Cool, good luck with your good budgets and never making the playoffs.
You win!

So a power 5 team should lose money to help you out instead? Nice call

I don't know how implying that White should STFU and take Florida's offer with a smile on his face somehow is trolling the Gators, but whatever.

I just assume that any post about teams playing real OOC games is a Gator troll, especially when FSU is the example

Im simply suggesting the landscape is different. If we pull in 1.5 million in at the gate and get 350k for going to the swamp, which plan fiscally enables the program to grow and pay for a new football facility, etc? Nobody cared about that stuff in the Bowden era. This is all about money now.

Florida ain't paying UCF 300K. Florida doesnt pay Charleston Southern 300k.
UCF would be getting $800K to $1M at least.

A school like UCF shouldn't be worrying about having a lavish budget right now. That will come when u do what Bobby Bowden did. U need to either stay G5 or hope to break even going on the road and earning your status. Nobody's just gonna give u this shite. We FINALLY got that through to UAB. They r now earning their way and getting respect. If u wanna be a big boy u gotta pay your dues.
Seriously, if ucf does not go this route u will be G5 forever.

We all know this is a lie. The payout from UF is more than the profit from a UCF home game.
