It’s perfectly fine to not like Dabo and not want him as coach, but the fact is that this is his 10th full season as a head coach and he is in the midst of his 8th consecutive season with 10 or more wins. Along the way he’s also won his conference title 6 times, been to the playoffs 4 times, and won a title with this year still pending.

Those are Saban numbers.

I know what Dabo has done. He's obviously a pretty good coach. His numbers in the SEC, where you can't be a rah rah coach and have off games because you're not pumped against teams like MSU or Arkansas, would be significantly worse than they are in the ACC.

And no, he doesn't have anything close to Saban numbers. He's good, but you'll all be disappointed in what he does at Bama, if it happens.

This sounds a lot like the few Bowden naysayers back in the day.

Bowden was the best candidate by a mile at the time and Dabo is today by the same margin.

Who would be a better hire right now than Dabo?

I hear this a lot, but is he just a rah-rah coach? Something tells me he's a little more than that to have sustained a decade of success as he has. He's a great recruiter, he hires great coaches, develops players, has the stones to make tough decisions like moving on from Kelly Bryant. Hell, his senior class is the second-winningest in college football history. You can't do that by just carrying pom-poms.

Funny how the opinion of every coach that works outside of the SEC is they won't have success here. Good coaching is good coaching regardless of conference. That said no one will do as well as Saban did here, It's crazy to think that anyone would. But you can do a lot worse than a coach who knows what it takes to win a title.

That said - if Dabo isn't the next guy, and he may not be. I'd keep an eye on Scott Satterfield who just took the Louisville job. He took over Appalachian State turned the program around, transitioned them to FBS and kept winning. If he can continue success at Louisville after a few years he might be worth a look. Especially since he's an App State alum, it's not like he'd leave to go "home".
