If Schumann takes over as DC who are we likely looking at for DB's coach? If he doesn't get the nod, who do we go after for DC/DB?

Hire a bad arse DB coach with NFL ties...promote from with in at DC.

Smart is going to be heavily involved in the defense no matter who he hires. Promote Schumann who he has raved about, and get a great DB coach.

Yeah. A lot of people say Ansley is top 3 for sure

Champ Bailey. Recruiting and DB coach. Home run

I don't understand the obsession with hiring former NFL star players. It isn't going to happen.

Champ would be good from a recruiting standpoint, but don't coaches usually have to have a masters degree in something. I am curious if the masters is a qualification because I am not sure.

His masters is 12 Pro Bowls and a future HOF

It's hilarious... it seems like the impetus behind this is that because Kirby played here people assume that he's good because he's passionate about the school. Alternatively, they just think that being talented at *doing* something, makes someone talented at coaching/teaching it. As someone who has taught and coached professionally, this is absolutely NOT the case. It doesn't mean they absolutely can't either... but it is a learned skill like anything else...
More importantly, I think people misunderstand how difficult NCAA coaching is on family/home life. When you layer on top tier program in the SEC/Country expectations, it's not just "not for everyone", it's not for anyone that hasn't already proven they have what it takes to hold up to it.
I love Champ, and Hines, and other all time great dawgs too... and if they want to coach at UGA... guess what. There is likely an analyst spot with their name on it most likely... 50-100k/year (to go along with their crazy NFL cash and pensions). Bacarri Rambo is out there doing it right now.

This. No former all-pro NFL star is going to go be an assistant coach and take on that work schedule, alma mater or not. Why would he pass up on living the retirement life or even a analyst/broadcasting gig for that workload.

Back to the OP... but if you saw in the recruiting thread, poster on another board "LG1" who has been pretty accurate over the past year and a half is hinting that it's likely an NFL coach that we are targeting... assuming that's true, it would make the most sense that it's Derrick Ansley who would then most likely take over DB/DC or possibly Co-DC with Schumann.
Completely unrelated, but anyone remember Aaron Feld from our Strength and Conditioning staff... you may remember him as Hipster Mustache Bro with massive biceps.

Also... tip of the hat to the incredible logo work here with biceps for his mustache. That is just quality work...

Multi-millionaire former pro athletes don't want to coach/work hard. Those days are over for them.

On the subject of coaching replacements, I saw a post on a Tennessee board that Chaney's contract with UGA has expired and has yet to be extended. I hope that's not true. Lots of teams still looking for OC's and right before early signing day wouldn't be a good time for rumors we're about to lose our other coordinator.

Still happens in the NHL and NBA, results are often a mixed bag, though.

I’ve heard Tyson Summers name thrown around but have no clue honestly.

So not really a big deal for us. Thanks.

It was just confirmed on Football Scoop that Summers is taking the DC position at Colorado. This has zero impact for Georgia.

Outstanding. Best of luck to him.
