quote:that's silly, especially for point guards. they're a part of the picture and waters is apparently significantly better in that regard. i think harper is really good. he's just not as good as waters. i just don't think he's capable of doing the miraculous things waters has on his highlight reel; the block against houston, the michigan layup, the a&m buzzer beater, etc. his passes are the closest thing to magic johnson i can recall seeing in a lonnnnnnng time
Steals are an awful way to judge defensive ability

We all have a little homer in us, but this guy is the closest thing you’ve seen to Magic, passing wise, in a long time? Seriously? And steals aren’t really a good way to judge how good a player is defensively. It just means he’s good at stealing the ball.

Wow, Waters has really fallen off so far. Sophomore slump much?
Great players experience a surge in year 2, like Jared Harper.

To be fair, LSU has played one more game at this point.

I had no idea he could even dunk it until this season.

Has more to do with changes to the team. This LSU team is much bigger, more athletic, and more talented. Waters is struggling to adjust at times. Last night was a prime example. He got in the groove with the other players in the second half and looked more like his old self.

Are you saying his style doesn't work unless he can hog the ball?

Waters had to carry the team last year. This year we are a lot more balanced and talented. Not up to Auburn, UT or UK yet but Wade is doing a great job of building our program up

He's saying he's getting used to playing with a bunch of new players, ones that can do a lot of work now on offense. Everyone he played with last year is gone except 2 guys, and only 1 of them even starts with him. So it's a chemistry thing all over again early on.
His late 2nd half last night was a thing of magic, he was basically getting assists at will (3 in like a few minutes span). Dribble drive and pass for an easy 2.
And 1 thing that makes Waters MISSES even not a bad thing is he knows when he can take chances with players able to clean up his misses around him. His vision is just unparalleled. Before he goes to the rim it's like he knows where everyone is on the court and if he feels like he has number inside takes a chance sometimes knowing it's a high chance we get the offensive board. He was only 3/11 last night, but 3 of his misses were rebounded by us because he saw us having numbers a few of those times.
