Why is Nick Sabin so much better than all other coaches?

Everyone knows he’s hands down one of the best if not the best college head coaches of all time. The question is how does he do it?

I’d like to see what he could do at Kansas or Rutgers.

Nick Saban’s Words:
Focus on the process and don’t worry about the end result. By focusing on the process and what’s in front of you the end result will be what you want it to be (victory) more times than none.
In other words, what he tells his players is to not look at the scoreboard during the course of the game but instead focus on whipping the man in front of you (the process....).
That comes from a couple of players I personally know that played for Saban when he coached at LSU.
He also doesn’t worry about all of the extra curricular bullshite that other coaches worry about.
ETA: he’s very detail oriented and places extremely high expectations on his players and staff. Just about a perfectionist.
Which is why you always hear people say he’s an arse to work with/for.

Convinces the school to spend more money on recruiting.

The process. Never have a tangible goal or end result but continuously focus on winning the next play.
Not once has Saban said our goal is to win the sec, win the national title. He says our goal is to get better every day.
He feels that if u set tangible goals (getting to a bowl for example) then once u reach the goal u are satisfied and stop working. U walk into the Alabama complex and u will not see a list of goals anywhere.

1) Lots of Pro experience
2) As such, lots of Pro mentors to learn from
3) Unique Mindset - Discipline and Process Ownership and Tough-mindedness....who also learned how to adapt.
4) Played a Cognitive, Big Picture position as a player. (DB)
5) Cache. Carries himself to demand respect.
6) Winning begets winning and recruiting.
7) 57 miles from SEC HQ's
8) He's a driven SOB with exceptional work ethics.
That's a start.

He has the refs in his pocket

He actually does work harder, recruit better, and prioritize better than normal humans. He is abnormal. Kind of an eccentric genius with a competitive disorder and unquenchable drive. Kind of a Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs type. There is no one else in coaching like him.

It's the perfect storm at Bama. You have a massive support system for the team combined with his ability to overcome all obstacles. He and Bama have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship, both have grown from it.

Besides his unmatched drive to win and dominate, organizational skills and ability to identify and develop the best football talent in the country, I think it’s his willingness to adapt.
After bitching about it for a few years, he realized the spread-the-field, HUNH offenses weren’t going anywhere, so he attacked it on defense and adopted it (sort of) on offense.
He went from giant D linemen and LBs to quicker, smaller, rangier guys. Hell, he shocked the world and hired Lane Frickin’ Kiffin to remake and modernize his offense. Now he has the best dual threat QB in college football who is throwing the ball all over the field and leading the top offense in the country.
Quote at halftime of Arkansas: “It don’t matter. I don’t care how we score. Do you get points for running more than passing? ... It don’t matter to me.”

I know firsthand that he is maniacal... perhaps the best combination for success. He was besides himself when an LSU secretary complimented him on his haircut. Sabin asked that she never address him unless he addressed her first. No doubt he is a genius ... but ... I would not want to be related to him.

Alabama.
It's the only place where he has been a dominant. He went from a great coach to the greatest of all time.
When he was at LSU he was a good coach, but he had losing records to Auburn and Tommy Tuberville was meh vs Florida and was even blown out 31-0 against the Tide and Fran.
He came to Bama at the right time. They just had completed stadium renovations and the state talent level was peaking.
In his first full recruiting class in O8 the state pumped out 3 1st Rd top 10 picks. Julio, Barron, and Marcel Dareus. Along with other All-americans like Robert Lester and Upshaw. He also landed a Heisman trophy back in Ingram because he coached his dad. He also got an Outland trophy winner, because his dad played basketball for Bama in Barrett Jones. He got Hightower because that Phil's incompetence.
The 1st full class was Paramount. It's said to be the most expensive classes of all-time.
He also puts together great staffs, he doesn't hang on to coordinators too long. Major Applewhite was the only really bad hire at the coordinator spot and he only lasted one year.
