How is Kirby going to handle the Fromm/Fields situation in 2019?

Biggio brought it up in the Bryant thread - This will be by far the most complicated of the 3 QB situations (Bama/Clemson/UGA).
Clemson and Alabama, the handwriting was on the wall. The kid QBs clearly had higher ceilings than the current QBs. How it was transitioned was tough, but the ultimate answer was pretty clear.
Georgia though? Fromm is a very good college quarterback, probably even a NFL quarterback. Fields is supremely talented, but there isn't a clear answer on who should ultimately end up playing yet. Maybe one comes about later this year or in the off-season, but there isn't a clear pick at this point. How do you think Kirby handles that? What is the ultimate outcome there?

Hurts, fromm, and old boy transfers out

I don't know and it's a small bit worrisome. Fields is the kind of QB you need to beat bama and win titles, but unlike bryant and hurts Fromm is perfectly capable of winning just about any other game as well. I almost hate the fact we have 2 quarterbacks that are this good, but I mean you can't simply bench fromm unless he gives you a reason to (or fields is just a phenom in the times he's in).
My only very, very SMALL gripe about the situation to date is that fields has only been given meaningless mop up time against scrubs. He played 0 snaps against SC and 1 against missouri. He's looked very good when he's played and looks very good in practice. I'd like to see him get a handful of series against tennessee.
My biggest fear is that similar to DJ's lone season here in 2005, after it's all over we'll look abck and say "man, I wonder what we could ahve done with 3 yeaers of fields..."

If Fromm wins them a natty that might make Fields understand he needs to wait and get his one year. If Fromm comes up short I think the competition is on and UGA will definitely lose one of them.
Fromm is one year ahead of Fields correct?

A lot is going to depend on how Fromm finishes the season but I expect something like Dabo did this year. Going to let Fields jump in there next year at certain points in the first 3-4 games. If Fields shows more promise, Kirby will make the switch.
Now if Fromm leads UGA to the National Championship and has some great performances in the playoffs. It is going to be much more difficult to make that change next year even if Fields looks good.

Yea, it's a uniquely difficult situation because Georgia has 2 very good college QBs. And not "good college QBs" in the sense that they are only good for college, good in the sense that they are just very good.
The Shockley comparison is a good one.

Fields will get little meaningful playing time and he will transfer and the end of the years. That's what I see happening. If they won't put Fields in when Fromm is sucking, then they're not going to put him in any other time either. He needs to play as much as possible because he's only one play away from being the starter.
Physically, Fields is light years better than Fromm. Fromm has the experience. I can only tell you this. There's no chance in hell that Fields is going to ride pine for three years to start one year.
I'm not sure if we can beat Bama, but we sure as hell can't beat them with Fromm. Fromm can get us there, but that's about it. Fromm's very good, but I just see us being even more dangerous with a QB who can beat you either way.

It's only a good comparison in terms of the situation and the fact that Shockley was physically better than Greene. However, Fields isn't going to sit for three years waiting his turn. Staying at UGA didn't help Shockley at all, especially in regards to his development and NFL prospects.

That was my point. Greene was a very solid college QB while Shockley was a very very talented guy who just happened to be behind him in seniority.

We need some depth, that's for sure. I am also not 100% positive that Fromm would transfer but I think that is a little hopeful.

Full blown competition this off-season no matter what happens this year. Fromm is a great passing QB but Fields is the type of QB that may be capable of taking games over like Deshaun Watson / Cam Newton / Vince Young. I'll be surprised if Fields isn't starting week 1 of next year but that is just a gut feeling more than anything.

Not sure there is any good outcome here because Fromm isn’t bad enough to lose his job, but if Bama smashes Fromm and uga in December, fields might get a real shot next year.

I mean, Fromm would have to play pretty poorly, but I could see Fields starting the second half of a must-win game this year.

You realize Hurts has only lost one non-postseason game right? Same for Bryant. Fromm is good but he's not done anything these other 2 haven't done.

Bama will lose some game this year on purpose. It is Saban's new formula to win the Title.
They get to skip the SEC championship game and have extra time to heal up and prepare.

Fields is perfectly ok riding the pine this season. He was prepared for a redshirt as necessary.
Lack of depth has him as the #2. And that necessitates reps. As many as possible to get the freshman up to speed. But I don't think there is any expectation that he will unseat Fromm in yr1.
Year 2 is an open competition. But Fromm's ability to manage and lead (actually being the OC on the field), I expect him to hold off Fields.
Fields talent will probably win the job late year 2 or year 3. Cam wasn't Cam until year 3. And even then, he developed as the year progressed.
I see both on the team at least for 2018 and 2019 and probably 2020. One will almost 100% be gone 2021 unless he loves college life at UGA and will stick as a team player.

If Fields improves and its a toss up as far as their football knowledge is concerned coming into 2019 - Fromm loses his starting position next year.
Only because the skill ceiling for Fields is much higher than that of Fromm.
I have nothing against Fromm and if CKS stays with him as the starter in 2019, I wont complain.
BUT, regardless how much Fields says he likes UGA - he will transfer next year if he isnt the starter.
Someone with his skill set will not be ok with being a back up for 3 years because Fromm will most likely stay his senior year.

Can’t we just have Fields come in the second half of the title game to wreck shite? I hear that’s pretty effective
