Went back and found an old article from when Baker first beat out Briscoe during his sophomore year.
I remember looking at his recruiting profiles, and being disappointed in his lackluster 3-star ranking.

During the spring, the 19-year-old Baker was little more than an after-thought at cornerback. Despite his speed, work ethic and 36-inch arms, Kirby Smart thought the 2015 U.S. Army All-American selection wasn’t playing with enough physicality. He improved on that during preseason camp but not enough to beat out Briscoe at the start of the season.
“I think he's bought into the fact that he won't play without tackling,” Smart said. “We wanted to play him in some other games, he just never got an opportunity. He's getting his opportunity now.”

Forgot about Briscoe until reading that. What a dark time period we lived through.

36 inch arms on a 5'11 guy? No way.
During the game on Sat, one of the announcers mentioned someone having a 7' wingspan, and it might of been Baker, which was complete bullshite. Isaiah Oliver had 33 1/2 inch arms at the combine last year, which was one of the longest reaches ever for a db (think he was a top 6). No way Baker has a 2 1/2 inch reach advantage over Oliver at 5'11.

It was JR Reed who they said had the 7’ wingspan.

Yep. Take a look at the photo of Eason and the O line within the article. Sad to see what Richt worked with and left for Kirby.

To be fair, Gaillard was the only OL in that picture. #69, Frix, was just a long snapper.

Briscoe lost his job because he was getting burnt like an old crack-ho with a book of matches.
Baker got the job because he knocked the tar out of Jalen Hurd against Tennessee when Hurd was show-boating while crossing the goal line, forced a fumble, and effectively ended Hurd's career there.
After that lick, Hurd was done for the day and transferred from Tennessee because he couldn't take a lick anymore without Baker living in his head rent-free.
