My dad and I own a beach house in Sunset Beach,NC, about 50 miles south of Willmington Been in our family for 40+years.
It survived Hurricanes, Floods, Tropical storms, my drunken escapades, etc.
Any chance this storm weakens enough to keep the house intact?

How far inland is it? The storm will weaken some but it's going to push a shitload of water inland and I think it will happen during high tide.

With global warming the way it is, I wouldn't take any chances.
Gonna be major flooding!!!

Well, i feel you have your answer already. Biggest frickery i saw post matthew was all storm surge related. Dude at the end of street, closest to the dunes, had about 3 ft of sand relocated into his yard. Some into in the house/garage. If that and flooding are off the table, seems like you have a pretty good shot.

I drove through Sunset on 179 yesterday. It was empty. Everything was boarded up and folks were headed west out of town via 904. People are taking this storm very seriously, largely because of the storm surge and the amount of rain that is supposed to be dropped on the coast. If I were concerned about anything, it would be water damage and your ability to get down there to make necessary repairs.

Ain't looking good, read up on what Hurricane Irene did in 2011. Irene stalled out and was moving only 3-4 mph. 24-36 hours of heavy rains and winds brought down lots of trees and storm surge. Irene was a Cat 1 at around 100mph, Florence supposed to be stronger. Good luck, hurricanes suck arse.

Do you remember how bad Hugo was because this could be worse (tons more people and development now than back then).
