why are people acting like this will be a close game?

You're entitled to your opinion. No coach in this conference will approach Bielema level fat for a long time though.

Georgia is flat out way more talented, however, the Gamecocks have Home field advantage, the support of some national pundits, and an excited fan base.

Muschamp is a good coach. Has the passion and the ability.
Unfortunately, there are other good coaches out there who have built in recruiting advantages that he has to face every year.
His time at UF was a learning experience. Gamecocksuckers hit a homerun with the hire. Not Muschamp's fault he arrived there around the same time of Kirby's ascention.

The area around the stadium is too nice - our team will be in awe until the second half, just mesmerized at the idyllic tailgating with nary a sight of an abandoned factory. Only late in the game will we come to our senses and take care of business.

South Cackalacky fans hang their hopes on Deebo whose stats are unimpressive, 5 TDs in 18 games. Jake Bentley whose stats are not as good as Fromm’s, and some guy named William Brice and I’m not sure what position he plays, but must be a hell of a player?

Time will tell. He has cleaned up the shite sandwich that Spurrier left on the Gamecock's kitchen table, and started the prepping the meal.
I'll forgive him for trying to learn to be a head coach in a high pressure environment. Muschamp would have benefitted from accepting a smaller gig first.
