I'll take it that, by "they", you are referring to the fans and not the player.
The answer is because they are fans, and USCe fans are amongst the greatest and most loyal in CFB. They buy in every year, and they fricking believe. And even if, deep down, they don't, what the frick else are you going to do on a fall Saturday in South Carolina besides get drunk with 80,000 of your friends and talk shite about "someday".
