No one who gets a job with NASA, even an internship, is that stupid. This is good news for NASA and bad news for the hiring procedures.

In my mind I want to believe that no person gaining a NASA internship wouldn't know who Homer Hickam is, bit I know that's not true.

I really hate this. How is her apology unnecessary? Why did he apologize? What did he do? Why does he owe her any help in securing her a better job?
I realize that many of the older generation have trouble navigating the social media scene and he may have felt pressured by the vocal minority that responded to the situation by blaming him.
Maybe he felt it would be virtuous in his response. I just think that his actions are very short sighted and not only further embolden the social media mob mentality but also completely negate any potential for self-reflection and correction by the girl.

Sure, but a better approach would be to ignore the faux-outrage rather than reinforce the ill-founded notions in Naomi's head that her response was appropriate and that she is actually the victim of the situation.

Others actions or reactions doesn't matter when it comes to being a good person. He read her resume' and decided she would be an asset to NASA.
