Not sure why I ever expect any different but our fanbase is so disappointing.
Sterk was on with Bernie this morning. Season ticket sales down. Only "hopeful" that we can sell out the Georgia game. Reduced capacity and we still can't sell this fricking thing out or even come close.
Meanwhile, Tennessee puts out a big pile of orange shite year after year, gets turned down by 75 coaches in the offseason and will still have 100k toothless freaks each Saturday.
Vandy aside, we have the worst fanbase in the SEC and it's a damn shame because it didn't used to be like this. If Mizzou fans get upset about the shortcomings of this program then they need to pull out a damn mirror.

As a local business owner in Columbia, we are in bleak economic situation teetering on 2010 bad. I'm not the least bit surprised on this news. I honestly don't think Mizzou playing well will change anything.

They can't sell their product in the largest market in the SEC.
Rightly or wrongly, it is what it is.
..and Tennessee has a history of winning. We don't.

What do you mean largest market in the SEC?
How do they "sell it"? How does Tennessee "sell it"? South Carolina has no history of winning and their fans show up. Same with Miss St, Arkansas, Ole Miss. Hell, Kentucky even does a better job recently.
Our fanbase has eroded into legitimate hot garbage.

It’s going to take winning to regain fans. Many tuned Mizzou out after 2015, others after the first 1.5 seasons of BO. Win and either they will come back or replacements will be found.
Win as in 8-10 wins over the next 3-4 years

Can HCBO even compete with the all SEC Tier One teams??? Miss State, LSU and Auburn were pitiful loses. Bama and UGA this year???
Not news...but the 2015 protest really hurt. I know alums/fans that are coming back this year only after J'Mon has now moved on.
All the good work that Pinkel did for so long, and he left crap in the cupboard.
Football is like religion in the South. Missourah needs religion.

Idk, I think attendance will be a bit higher than last year. I havent heard this much off-season excitement from fans in a long time.
Posted on 8/22/18 at 10:26 am to JesusQuintana
A vast majority of the fanbase prefers to derp the "show me" bullshite when it comes to donating and attendence. They are also the first people to scratch their heads and asses with the same hand when the AD can't get the coach they are pining away for

Yeah. Barry’s intent on building the program the slow, consistent way.
That’s one way to do it. But he has to show year-over-year improvement both to get recruits and to get fans. This isn’t rocket science.
If they have a breakout year, they’ll have an uptick in attendance. Repeat the first half of last year, and we’ll continue to see an attendance malaise.

For realz. Mizzou fans are hard to get on board, and easy to jump off. But theres no shortage of them. Im not worried about attendance. Im worried about winning.

I’ve said this before, we have to win the Purdue game. If we’re heading into the Georgia game at 3-0, people will show up. Especially if our defense is showing improvement.

Mississippi has no pro sports
Kentucky has no pro sports
South Carolina has no pro sports
Arkansas has no pro sports
Alabama has no pro sports
If Mizzou is undefeated going into the Georgia game it will be sold out. Stop getting your panties in a wod.

Regardless of what states have pro sports Mizzou is the only real D1 and P5 school in the state of Missouri. With the exception of our loyal fans, Mizzou has the most fickle fans that I ever have seen.

Quit shitting the bed against bad teams and compete against good teams and people will show up.
In reality most season ticket holders live in the CoMo area, and aren't coming from the metro areas of StL and KC.
The AD needs to do a better job in these areas with the youth, and get them invested in Mizzou. Programs with the schools would go a huge way towards building the next generation. Give swag away to elementary schools (t-shirts, backpacks, hats, etc) , have teams visit middle school pep-rallys, bring (high performing) high school students in for a Friday campus tour and Saturday games. This builds a fanbase, but also attracts high-caliber students.

This is a direct result from decisions made decades ago. Lets face it, older people are the ones who usually are the ones buying season tickets, donating, etc. The generation that would have been in school in the late 70s and early 80s are the ones who the school relies on to provide its monetary base. The same lost generation is only invested through the success of the late 90s and 2000s, not because of their school experience. So when the team fails they revert back to their status quo.

Mississippi population 3 million
Kentucky population 4.4 million
South Carolina population 5 million
Arkansas population 3 million
Alabama population 4.8 million
Missouri population 6.2 million
Pro sports or lack thereof are not a real factor.
Proximity to big population centers is probably a bigger factor.

Kills me that people making the most excuses are the ones who scream the loudest when we don't succeed.
Like they can't see the correlation.
Mizzou fans are the only ones in the SEC that subscribe to this "well they have to be good before I support them" bullshite.
That's not how this works. Get your asses in the seats, donate...or don't complain.

I donate in October every year and I'm willing to give the fans and Odom a break. I don't like "firing" BO talk before we see his results this year and for the average fan who doesn't keep up with Mizzou football like we do, I understand wanting to see the product before forking over dwindling disposable income.
Mizzou is a historic mediocore midwest plains program playing in the SEC. Not a SEC program. As such the fans are similar to Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Kansas. And also similar, have a better Basketball fan base than football. Simply playing in a different conference doesn't change that. Wiinning and exposure will fill seats with bandwagon fans. Sustained winning will take them from the bandwagon to a real fan base.
I personall believe, Odom will begin seeing the bandwagon fans for the UGA game, and after a Tuscaloosa upset, the atmosphere will be what it should.
