Will marching bands go away? A&M excluded from this, of course.

Some SEC schools are known for having excellent bands, like LSU and UT. Most schools, it seems, are piping in recorded music more often than having the band play during timeouts, between plays etc.
I like bands and wish they would play more during games, rather than recorded music. LSU's band playing Neck should be mandatory. Vols have an excellent band.
I think that crap Butch Jones did for 3rd down last year was awful and Sandstorm is for Euro trash dance clubs, not SEC football. But that stuff gets more common. Are we going to see schools eliminate the bands and use those seats for paid tickets?
A&M is excluded because we all know they would never let go of the drum major's staff.

I hear it’s a very impressive staff.

TV was uniformity and AD want cheap so a band unique to a school does not help either of these agendas.
Probably DoA wishing a generation.

Tv timeouts killed marching bands. Hard to toot a tuba for 10 minutes straight.

Those are good points about TV's effect on this. Hadn't thought of that.

As for your question ...

Our band isn’t going anywhere.
I’m sure the same goes for other schools as well.

I hate how much music we pipe in at BDS, and my age is the target demographic. It's fun at times, but it has become too much at pretty much every SEC stadium I go to.
When we get a first down, it's just a wall of noise now. The announcer says first down Alabama, the fans scream roll tide, the band plays, and all that you hear is Blur shouting "Woo Hoo" over the sound system.
I don't think marching bands will go away though. For a lot of alumni that's their biggest connection to sports events.

We love our staffs at A&M

Homo jokes aside, I wouldn't expect A&M to ever ditch the band.

The Aggie Band has its own alumni and fundraising association which helps with the travel costs. It has a sizeable amount of influential alumni including three General Officers.

I don't think they go away for a while yet. I think they will travel less and less though. Too expensive. Those kids bust their asses though and shouldn't be made light of. Most are serious musicians and they put in a lot of hours.
And the precision that the A&M band performs with is truly amazing and something to see. Tip of the cap to the Aggies

Hell, the Corky Kell (this weekend) or when PBS shows the hs bands, we're lucky to get 30 secs. before a commercial or they go to something else. & even then, they somehow manage to perfectly time it where the band ISN'T playing. The CK somehow had all the cameras on the backs of the bands, yet were covering every angle of the field imaginable during the games.
So. I agree that it's like giving the middle finger to all the musically talented students.

So every other SEC team can play Thunderstruck, Hell’s Bells or Zombie Nation but we get shite for sandstorm
We have a band too btw.

I might be the only one with any music experience on here. But without the band, you take away fans at away games and any school specific music like your fight song there.
Most of the bands around the SEC are very large and good. A&Ms is unique due to the ROTC factor. But all in all I can say there's not many bands I can just say that suck in the SEC and as for my school, Mississippi State has invested in a brand new practice facility for the band. I know schools like Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina have taken similar steps.
If the bands were going away, I don't think the universities would still invest in them. And call me a sucker for traditions. But nothing gives me more chills than hearing the school songs at football games.

In the case of the Aggie Band, if it were to go away, the athletic department would lose about 25% of its donations. This is not an exaggeration.

The piped in music kills the collegiate atmosphere. They need to stop copying everything the NFL does.
