This too is breaking news.

Not really....
Let’s do this.
Since we’ve eliminated all other conferences.
Let’s compare the Big 10 to the SEC.
How many years should we go back?
50? 70? 75?
And I’m not doing the research! :)

I don't think we have eliminated all other conferences. Also, I'm an LSU fan. Hence my screenname.

I have made the point that modern college football started in the 1970s with integration. We can talk about the sport before then, sure, but it fundamentally changed with integration. I do not believe you can compare pre-integration cfb to post-integration cfb. Most of the players from back then wouldn't even make the team today.

Then you don't really want to play, do you?

Ok let’s start in 1970?
Or you pick a year.
Yes I’ll assume you are an LSU fan.
BTW, I still amazes me that college football or the SEC wasn’t integrated until the ‘70s

OK -- see my first post in this thread. I already picked 1970, and outlined how the SEC was a one-team (or zero-team) conference for the next two decades.

I’ll make it easy and really move the goalposts...
Let’s begin with the BCS era, when you actually had to play in a National Championship game to win the National Championship.
What’s the best overall conference top to bottom?
I was willing to go farther back which included ridiculous voting biases and would still suggest that the SEC had several good football teams year after year.

70s, and 80s the big 10 was a deeper league
Complete garbage
NOT in either the 70's and 80's
70's first:
AU,UGA,Bama,UT and UK all had top 10 finishes over the course of the decade and WHO outside the obvious 2 made the top 10 from the BIG?Purdue and they came in @ #10 ONE year.
Now the 80's (this is where you lose ALL credibility)
Top 5 finishes SEC:NINE with 5 teams
UGA,UF,UT,AU and LSU
Top 5 finishes:THREE with 1 team
Michigan
To argue the 80's is beyond absurd.

Here is USA Today's ranking of the best teams of the 1970s. The Pac 10 has as many teams as the SEC. The SWC has almost as many teams. And the Big Eight has the two of the top three teams on the list, and they also have a third team down the list (Colorado -- think you forgot about them).

If you read my post (which you clearly haven't), you will see that I argue SEC dominance coincides pretty closely with the BCS era. It started just before the BCS was implemented in the 1990s, due to large-scale demographic and economic changes in the greater South. It reached its peak in the mid to late 2000s, when the league had 4 different teams win 7 championships (Auburn 2004 would have made 8) in the span of 10 years (roughly 2003-2012).
But the POINT is that the SEC wasn't always so dominant. They were not in the 1970s-1990s, although the trends I am describing has started by the late 90s.

Gee,wonder why you didn't include the 70's and ESPECIALLY the 80's??
Posted on 7/20/18 at 3:19 pm to RD Dawg
Dude the SEC was a fricking mess in the 1980s. This was true for many conferences, actually. We saw the rise of independents like Miami, Penn State, and Florida State. We saw many good teams (Auburn, Florida, SMU, etc.) rendered ineligible for cheating.
Georgia was good early in the decade because of a single player. Outside of that, the SEC was not even close to dominating the college football landscape.

Had more top 5 finishes with more different teams than any other conference...see my earlier post.
Ok,who exactly was the "dominant" and deeper conference in the 80's?
Posted on 7/20/18 at 3:24 pm to TxTiger82
Ok I agree.
But you must know of the “voting biases” in the past.
My point is the BCS era proved that the SEC was better than other conferences at the time.
The SEC didn’t become dominant the first year of the BCS.

I should have said in my original post the SEC was not dominate in the 40s, 50s, 60s etc etc

I agree for the most part, which (again) was part of the argument I laid out in my first post in this thread. It took a while for the voters to catch on to what was happening. The humans picked USC over LSU in 2003, they snubbed Auburn in 2004, and they thought Florida would be a wash in 2006.
In fact, I give a lot of credit to that Florida 2006 team for changing the perspective. When they kicked the ever-loving shite out of Ohio State, people started to realize that the SEC was much more talented than the other leagues. The voting bias then shifted in the SEC's favor, as LSU 2007 and Florida 2008 exemplified.

I get it now....No I don't actually. At first I thought it was an embarrass Missouri thread. No one else would have disagreed. Turns out no agrees on this. But yes, the SEC has the greatest collection of football powerhouse programs...ever.

Dude the 1990s there was no bias
LSU, AU, and UGA just couldnt stop stepping on their dicks
The SEC was not deep at all in the 90s

What?He argued that the BIG was deeper in the 80's which was patently absurd.

a fricking mess
It was the best and deepest conference in the 80's and many years with teams knocking each other off.Independents were very good in the decade because they could set their own schedules and weren't tied to conference home and homes.
BTW do you wanna guess who Miami loss to in '83?How bout Texas in '83? (who was considered the 2nd best team behind Nebraska)
btw...were you even around in the 80's?
