what you’re saying is Kirby hasn’t won anything with his recruits, those were all Mark Richt’s.

We had 4 freshmen on the field for our last td in the benz.

I saw we agreed. I think we gave him a fair grade.

For me it is when he becomes stubborn and comes up with no innovative play calling and we keep going 3 and out. It pisses me off to no end.

He is suppose to be some offensive guru. His offenses have sucked for years. We are going to regret that contract in 2-3 years.

Gus has held his own well enough

Goat-faced Gus has the ref assisted fluke win in 2013 (still looking for that false start on Kouandjio) and a 2017 *win* against Bama that was such an officiating travesty that the Playoff Committee chose rightfully to treat Alabama like an undefeated team. When Gus faces an officiating crew that actually knows how to officiate he gets smashed.

In spite of the ignorance and trolling. It’s still a B.

C+.

He's led the program to just slightly above its historic average.

He's recently been compensated above and beyond that. It will be interesting to see if he can earn it.

Malzahn has earned about a C. Without the extra credit he received for the UGA win and Kick 6 in 2013, he’d be closer to a D or D-.

hypothetical, if he doesn't catch lightning in a bottle twice in '13, what is the grade?

Solid B. He has done well with the defense and had some very good highs. Auburn has been competitive but not overwhelming against its rivals. Needs to improve on that and the big games,

Recruiting has been solid but could improve.

Being multiple and unpredictable on offense isn't a bad thing, Gus.

Hell, I thought that would be the grade for the majority on the Auburn folks. It seems that I see more of you folks bitching about him than praising him. He's 1-3 in bowl games...no national or conference coaching awards...his conference winning % is less than Dye, Tuberville and even Bowden. Personally, I'm glad he's your man...helluva coach. I'll bet our Georgia folks will agree.

2 SECW Championships
1 SEC Championship
3 Big 6 Bowl Appearances
1 NC Appearance
3 Years in the Playoff Poll (October)
2-3 against Saban, during the most historic run in their history.

What other coach can match that in 5 years at a School? His Bowl record sucks, but when you play in better bowls it might have an affect on your record. Even the great Kirby Smart has averaged 3.5 losses per year and 3 SEC losses per year and his team plays in the weak East.

What

That was a great team. Great teams take advantage of breaks. I suppose if AU hadn't won those games (and nothing else changed) Gustav would have been dismissed prior to last season and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Similar hypothetical, if your shitty kicker misses the game winner against AU last year, who would be your HC now?

Lighting in a bottle in 13 consisted of blowing a 20 point lead in the 4th Qrt before the big play and beating UA on the last play before the game would have gone to OT. Bama's butts were dragging at that point and most feel the would have lost in OT because they could stop AUs Offense late. DA just look at the two highlights and think AU was outplayed prior.

Well that's just great, SkyKing!...sounds like he needs a big raise and contract extension.

While the consistency might be a little frustrating at times, any Auburn fan giving him less then an A or A- is delusional.

He's had Auburn in the playoff mix a lot and plays in a brutal division of the SEC. Fans expecting a dominant run are kind of over-estimating the historical results of Auburn football. They were a good 2-3 loss team for the most part for the last forty years with a few seasons with sniffs at the NCAA championship during that time. Gus may have a few more below average seasons in the mix, but he's shown he can field very good teams at times

A+ ... it's auburn ... how successful could he be?
You are being flippant about the potential for Auburn, but the point in your post is valid.

Success is relative to the established quality, culture, and potential of the program.

For instance, James Franklin acheiving .615 win % all games and .458 win % in conf make him 3rd all time most successful coach in both reagrds with 30+ games coached at Vandy. Also, his doing so in the most competitive era of CFB at the height of SEC dominance is more impressive and would earn him an A to A+ as a HC in the SEC.

Gus has had highs and lows. But, Auburn has a history of boom or bust. In all, I think he lacks a level of consistency and has been close to underachieving as a whole for Auburn's level of expectation. Yes, he went to a NC game, but Chizik was fired 2 years after winning one.

2014 was a let down in a big way based on expectations. 2015 was an abortion slightly less embarrassing that Chizik's swan song. 2016 was another avg performance, which had him firmly on a hot seat. 2017 was a pivotal year. Beating UA and UGA in the regular season while getting 10 wins helped save his job IMO.

Hell, I forget the number exactly, but coming into 2017, I seem to recall fewer than 1/2 the HCs in the SEC with a .500 win %. All of that and 7 HCs in the SEC turning over got him a raise in spite of 4 losses.
