Good for about 3 years.

Good move if his health can hold up.

.740 winning percentage. We really can’t get any more mediocre than we are now

If Matta is healthy and energized seems like a solid no-brainer to me. Good coach, very good recruiter.
Right out of the Barnes/Howland playbook from other SEC schools.

He's a heck of a coach, but if he was too sick to recruit at tOSU in 2017 what would indicate that he's going to be able to do it at UGA in 2018?
No offense to UGA, but this ain't football. He, like all SEC coaches not employed by Kentucky, are always going to have to work extra hard to keep 'basketball' conferences from stealing recruits.

Good move for UGA and the league overall if his health is in order. The guy has only had one season of less than 20 wins and has won overall at a 74% clip. He has had only one season that he was below .500 in league play, which was his last season at Ohio State.

Urban Meyer says hi..

But Matta was actually sick. He didn't have a bad case of the farts/Sabans like Urban did.

I hope it's an Urban Meyer situation where he quit for health reasons when he really just wanted a change of scenery.
One major difference would be that Meyer then went to a blue blood program whereas Matta would be going to a hot dog shite program, but hope remains.

He's got that UG look about him. Should be a good fit.

How in the world would it be a bad move? The only possible negative you can come up with is healthy concerns, but TM has said it's not an issue and he's ready to coach again. If he's lying, there's no way to know that until years down the road which wouldn't really make the hire itself a bad one at the time (like in real time).
Personally I wanted crean from the outset because I thought TM was simply a pipe dream. If we get him it would be a grand slam that exceeds even my highest expectations.

He might be one of the oldest looking 50 year olds I've ever seen.

And those 3 years would almost surely be better htan any in the Fox tenure

If he's healthy it's a high floor, high ceiling hire. Can't imagine doing much better.

Bad move imo
If his health is good, would you still think it was a bad move? If so, why?
Just curious.

Yall keep saying "he's sick" like he's got cancer or late stage renal failure or something. He has a bad back.
Walking slower than usual isn't really a "sickness" IMO.

He is one of a long line of really good coaches to come through Xavier. I think Ole Miss will regret not putting up the money that he wanted. Kermit is good, but Matta works at a different level.

This excerpt is from less than 1 year ago:
Obviously he's not in the shape he was at age 20, but it's not like he's an invalid.
quote:
Matta has gone out to recruit this year more than he ever has in the past, according to team sources, taking advantage of off days and seeing as many recruits as possible in the 130 days allotted by the NCAA per year — which should be a sign that Matta’s health isn’t a variable.
