Yeah, you can't drop off of a kid for months and then think you can pick it back up and make up that ground in a few weeks.

I really don't see how we need more DBs. Hopefully Williams sticks. If so, we should be more than set back there after the last two recruiting classes.

The next… Alabama OL to be looked at by the pros immediately

Another position where Alabama continues to churn out NFL-level prospect is along the offensive line and Evan Neal should pique the interest of pro teams pretty quickly. The five-star offensive tackle is all of 6-foot-7 and 360 pounds and that’s him trimmed up and in fighting shape.

Neal is a big boy who has reshaped his body and refocused his mind on being great - and he said that during an ESPN interview on Wednesday as the reason why he chose the Crimson Tide. Jonah Williams was an excellent high school player who became exceptional at Alabama. He should be a first-round NFL Draft pick. Neal’s size alone will intrigue pro teams and his mean, tough attitude will make them even more interested.

That's a good get for Iowa. Byrd was really impressive every time I saw Thompson.

Can any of these OL kids win a job next year? Losing Jonah and Ross. I would assume Leatherwood moves from RG to LT...but could Neal win the LT job? Ive also heard Quick could play Center, could he win that job?

I think Womack will have the inside track to a spot on the OL. One poster here (can't recall at the moment) believes Lashley does. I think Leatherwood is a better tackle than guard. I know he started so he had a lot more exposure but it seemed to me like he regressed at times this year. I love Neal and physically I think he can hold up early, but how they adjust to the learning curve is just hard to predict.

I have to think Owens or Ekiyor will take over at center. I think Quick is a G/T, but even if he could move to C, asking him to learn a new spot, a new offense, how to make calls up front, etc., would be a lot to ask a true freshman, even one that has enrolled early.

Regarding Dabo’s announcement: that makes absolutely no sense. There has to be more to this story and maybe Dabo is trying to spin it positively.

Maybe this is part of the super-secret plan to dismantle the machine he has built at Clemson before he returns to the Mother Ship. ITS CHESS, NOT CHECKERS!!!

Alabama gets final letter of intent from Trey Sanders (BamaOnLine)

quote:

If you’ve tracked the recruitment of 5-star running back Trey Sanders over the course of the last week, you’d understand that any sort of delay, from the time he committed to the Crimson Tide on Wednesday afternoon to the time his National Letter of Intent reached the Alabama coaches office, would cause some level of concern among Tide fans.

That concern vanished early Wednesday night, however, as Alabama announced (via Twitter) Sanders as a member of the class. Not before a few hours passed with nervous tension growing by the minute among the Bama fanbase.

Nevertheless, Alabama signed the nation’s No. 1 running back in a recruitment that for the most part didn’t generate a whole lot of buzz until the final two weeks of its duration.

Sanders, a one-time UA pledge, was trending to Alabama since the summertime, however, it was a visit to Georgia earlier this month that turned everything somewhat upside down and opened the door to not only the Bulldogs generating buzz, but also Florida and Texas working their way in more so than we saw at any point in the last six months.

The Port St. Joe, Fla. native even picked up a run of 247Sports Crystal predictions to UGA before Bama retook the momentum on Wednesday morning and added him to their 2019 class.

“They’re a different breed, man,” Sanders said of Alabama earlier this fall. “Najee is Najee, but like Jerry Jeudy and everybody that went there who were 5-stars, (Alabama) turned them into monsters. Instead of them falling off in college, they took their talent and ran with it.”

The Florida native said he didn't fully make up his mind on the Tide until Wednesday morning, but that he always came back to Bama when considering his options.

“I gotta finish what I started,” Sanders told 247Sports’ John Garcia Jr. after announcing his decision. “I committed my freshman year and that love just never left.

“My heart was always there.”

The Tide signee is one of three 247Sports Composite 5-stars in the class, joining defensive lineman Antonio Alfano and IMG Academy teammate and offensive lineman Evan Neal.

Sanders is also the second running back in Alabama’s 2019 class, joining 4-star Washington D.C. product Keilan Robinson.

Alabama sits with the No. 1-ranked recruiting class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, after Day 1 of the Early Signing Period. And, barring any shocking turn of events, will hold onto that positioning as we turn towards February.

With 23 signees onboard, Alabama will continue to pursue the nation’s top talent with the second half of National Signing Day coming up in just over 40 days.

Reckless strategy from Dabo in my opinion. This is not going to help their recruiting.

So they are going to start the same crap again? We should ask him why did Devonta not sign or Williams or Pickens?

I don't see them getting all five of those kids, but I do get the feeling that Sopsher will end up staying home

Maybe..it could also be a ploy to make a push at high value targets by showing them "extra" love.

I love Dabo, but stuff like this makes me think he may not be the best fit to follow Saban. You don't make things hard on recruits. That's insane.

Yeah, then the kid from down the road finds out the other guy was allowed and he wasn't. Just not a good strategy and I doubt it lasts long.

if the kid from down the road has any interest in going to clemson then it wouldn't be hard or expensive for him to get there on an unofficial..which is Dabo's point. To me it looks like a ploy to woo long distance prospects. Unless i'm misunderstanding, he's saying they won't do official visits in the spring, not that they won't host recruits at all in the spring.

I would not be surprised if Sopsher stays home. I think we have a good shot, but LSU is going to be willing to take his brother, who is probably a borderline D2 prospect, in order to get him. That could be the difference. I hope not.

If we just hold onto our guys and add two of: Toto, Sopsher, Bogle, Pickering I'd be thrilled. If we have room I'd be fine with taking a flyer on Pickens even.

Dabo has always gone about recruiting in a different way than most. It's hard to argue with the results - they almost never have de-commitments and have signed high quality classes for half a decade.

But this is another example of a strategy that fits with the culture at Clemson (much like Auburn), but I don't think works at Alabama. The biggest question is - does Dabo understand that and is he able to adjust to a different atmosphere.
