Damn, Louisiana. Y'all just can't get out of Alabama's shadow, huh? First it was sports with football and now basketball too. Then the only thing y'all thought y'all were safe with, the things y'all thought were your own, Alabama is even taking over at. First science PROVES beyond doubt that Alabama crawfish are hands down the best LINK, but now you retards are being forced to face the fact that yall stole Mardi Gras from Alabama

I'll pray for you dumb coonasses

This is true.
On topic, which New Orleans bakery ships the best king cake? And should it be filled? Not filled?

Haydels is where we get one of ours every year. I prefer not filled, but to each their own
If you're in Mobile and want a local king cake, order from Pollman's. Call ahead of time to order though...they don't have extras on hand this time of year

Everybody raves about Haydel's, but I prefer Meche's on Congress in Lafayette.
It's a donut king cake. It's not filled, but you can get it with cream cheese, bavarian cream, chocolate, raspberry, etc.
No idea if they ship.

Hmmm. If I ever want to know what it feels like to be under Alabama's shadow, the first person I'll ask is an Auburn fan.
Yes, Mobile had the first Mardi Gras. How many people changed their trip reservations after seeing that billboard to go to Mobile instead?

I don't really care where the crawfish come from as long as I get selects.

I'll pray for you too.
Evidently, you are unaware of your state's own history.
Oh and here jackass...

In fact, only the city of Mobile states it was the first.... leave it to the state of Alabama to claim something they have no business claiming.

• The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce says the city's first Mardi Gras celebration was in 1703, just a year after the city was founded.

The first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville landed near present-day New Orleans, Louisiana. They held a small celebration and dubbed their landing spot Point du Mardi Gras.

According to the article I read from NOLA.com
New Orleans' whole argument is that he noted in diary that it was a holiday, but they have no idea if he they celebrated or not but there's no real evidence to say they did.
The article even goes on to basically admit that they probably didn't actually celebrate because they were too busy with more important things like surviving.
Theres literally no way they had any sort of parade or anything that anybody associates with any real Mardi Gras celebration.
Mobile, Alabama is the father of Mardi Gras in America. That's just a fact and I'm sorry but there's nothing you can do to change that.
ETA:
Even your fellow coonasses are in here admitting that Mobile was first. Louisiana is second to Alabama at everything. Give it up and just admit it dude.
Everybody knows you can't carry a lie, memphisplaya. Hey btw, how is your glamorous Trainer career going, baw? You must be Trainer in the NFL by now, probably for the Saints. I bet you have the best inside scoop of anybody on the Saints Talk board since you're around all the players all day, amirite?

French Canadian explorer Iberville pitched camp in what is now Plaquemines Parish on Mardi Gras day in 1699, noting the holiday in his log book.
How exactly Iberville and his fellow sailors marked the occasion, if at all, is unknown.

So because he didn't make a social media post at the end of the 17th century marking the exact details it doesn't count? More likely it just wasn't written down and if it was it was lost to history.
Bottom line is Mobile wasn't Alabama then because Alabama didn't exist. The Louisiana Purchase didn't happen until 1803 and at that point what is now Mobile was part of the Florida Territory. In 1699(year of the first American Mardis Gras in New Orleans) and from 1720 however, Mobile was the capital of Louisiana. So even saying it belongs to Alabama is an outright falsehood.
Don't like it? Tough. It's history. Learn it. One person said it was Mobile, and the citizens agreed and it spread like wildfire. It's wrong, but whatever.

I quoted history.com... Not the best all-around source and they can be subject to some deserved criticism. However, nothing I posted in this thread is a lie. It's backed up by historical fact, and not one mayor's opinion that was agreed upon by the masses of Mobile.

New Orleans does it way better than Mobile anyways so who cares who’s first
