Not to mention Auburn was kicking bama's tail during that time. Bama didn't take the lead in the series until Bear broke off 9 straight in the late 70s up until Bo showed up.

Bama won 3 of the last 4 before the split.

From what I understand Alabama was pretty good in the 20's, 30's and 40's. Alabama probably wins 26 or 27 out of 40. Then Bama would have nearly a 20 game series lead.

If you call winning 1 out of the previous 5 games before the break "kicking Bama's tail," sure. But overall I agree Auburn had uncharacteristically strong success against Bama in the early years. It's a shame they couldn't keep it up.

when the series broke off, AU did have the lead. Once the series returned, Alabama took the lead in the middle 50's, but then AU was able to retake it by the end.It really kinda of went back and forth until 1965 and Alabama took the lead for good......

Yea, this thing took a break when Alabama was hitting it's stride on the national scene. Had they kept playing Bama would probably have a 25 or 30 game lead in the series.

And auburns program suffered big time not having Alabama to play while Alabama flourished. Hence why aubie went to Montgomery to force the rivalry to resume. They knew they were on their way to being to Alabama what ga tech is to Georgia.

Dumb barner Alabama took the All Time Series lead in 1965 and hasn't relinquished it since.
