Nothing eye popping as far as stats. Total defense wise (which to me is the most important stat), he's been ranked in the 40s since his days at Wake Forest.

I think we could have done a whole lot better. If Jimbo was a defensive minded coach, I would have been ok with the hire. But since he will be given the keys to the entire defense, I'm not entirely confident he's our guy.

Sumlin also hired Mark Snyder because of the way his USF defense played against his offense.

The only bright part about Elko is that he isn't a "has been". Mark Snyder had already failed as a HC before we hired him

Agree that none of his stats jump off the page. But there are way better stats than total yards for judging defenses.

Look at yards per play or points per play or any of a number of advanced stats. Otherwise, the tempo at which teams play drastically skew the total yardage and it becomes almost meaningless.
