I think as you see this team become more balanced on offense, you will see more interest from top high school QB's. We have been known as a run first team since I started watching in the 70's. That's great for RB's and OL...not so great for WR and QB's. We already see more attraction to WR based on our current and expected frosh class coming in. In the meantime, I think Malzahn has done pretty well with the hand he's been dealt at QB. We've seen offensive production under him that has never been seen before on the Plains.

I'm saying it is JUCO + HS that is a problem. Here are the Gus recruits as HC/OC
09- Tyrik Rollison/Clint Moseley
10- Cam Newton
11- Kiehl Frazier
13- Jeremy Johnson / Nick Marshall
14- Sean White
15- Tyler Queen
16- Woody Barrett, JF3
Let's not forget some other top QB targets we went hard after
-Brandon Harris
-Treon Harris
-Deondre Francois
-Torrance Gibson
Marshall just looks like an outlier given the history. Sometimes coaches just get lucky rather than making a good eval
With all due respect, EVERYONE was recruiting those guys. You can't make it seem like they pulled players off the scrap heap.
Except JF3...still don't get that one.

We all sit back in our chairs and talk about the (subpar) QBs we recruited, but there is a chicken-and-egg issue here. Is Saban a great QB developer? Is he great at evaluating high school QBs? Or has he built a well-rounded program in other ways (great defense yes, but great WRs and great RBs too) that make high school QBs' mouths water when they get recruited to be at Bama?
I think it's the latter.
Malzahn knows what a good QB looks like, he just has to bring all the pieces together, and stay after it on the recruiting trail. Good QBs will come with success of the program. If he matures as a coach and learns not to crap the bed with play calling, we'll be okay.
But to say Saban's or Dabo's success is due to ONE thing is myopic.

How in the hell can you make a bad list without including his miserable second half offensive showings against good defenses?

Sorry. My supervisor did not check my work.

QB development and developing better depth at RB. Pettway having 30+ carries against Mercer was ridiculous, same with KJ and 20+ carries against ULM. It played a part in the long run.
