Morris... Why do you or do you not like him as HC

I don't...

But I may be able to be persuaded. His name is the only one really all over the media and being pushed.

So it is for real, or a smoke screen.

My reasons. His record isn't great, while supposedly recruiting all of those wonderful TX Cruits. Yes, I know the place was a dumpster fire, but in a lesser conference as well.

He supposedly can recruit, yet his ranking as HC are not that great either...

and Where is the D in his knowledge. His defense was atrocious, which means it will likely be him. Norvell beat him, and yet we pass.

So who likes him and why?

Love him.

Clemson offense is what it is today because of him.

Huge Texas ties for recruiting.

Fun to watch offense.

Great at developing talent.

Great person.

This is a legit concern, hopefully it is addressed

True but he also had more to work with, I can admit that even though I have been pro-Norvell.

Just going to repost this:

Morris has shown he can take a really bad team and trend it in the right direction. Norvell hasn't had the opportunity, since he took over a program in good shape (sounds familiar, right?).

Morris has experience as an OC at Clemson - it's not SEC experience, but it's about as close as you can get without being in the SEC. Experience scheming against SEC level athletes is huge. I can't see Norvell not having a huge learning curve there.

And obviously the Texas high school ties.

None of these things show up if you're just comparing numbers, but they're big factor in why I'd take Morris over Norvell.

If Pat Sajak and Gordon Ramsey had a baby it would be Chad Morris.

That has nothing to do with your question but was just trying to remember what he looked like.

I'd be ok with him, not doing backflips.

Thanks Ultimate...

What about defense? do you think he gets it? I know this would depend on his hires, etc.

And, how does his Offense compare to the likes of Kiffin, Petrino, and Norvell?

Also looking at his overall record and basing anything at all off of that is like using Wins and Losses to determine how good a starting pitcher is.

Research what Chad Morris did for Clemson, and then look at year 3 at SMU.

Sign the guy, now.

He's an aggie with a Bielemaish record in a G5 conference. I would be happy to jump on board with the hire if we were hiring next year and he turned SMU into a ten win team during that time. All we have proof of at the moment is that he can rebuild shite into mediocrity. If we're going to hire a G5 coach, shouldn't we at least go after one that's been excellent in their G5 conference?

Texas ties are important.. That D though..

and you may be right about Norvell having a learning curve moreso than Morris. How bad was SMU when he took over?

Here is what Chad Morris said about us.

Listening to Paul Finebaum show, Paul said when BB took a shot at Gus about the hurry up offense, Chad Morris said “why would anybody go to Arkansas to coach anyway."

He’s not in my top 4 or 5, but I’d be completely fine with him for all the reasons UltimateHog listed above.

Dislike:
His record at SMU - it is what it is
He is an Aggie - I'm not one of those "hire and Arkansan" fans but it's going to be weird having an aggie on the sideline.

Like:
His offense - he runs an uptempo, spread it out offense
His connections to Texas - I have 2 former friends who are high school coaches in Texas (one is an athletic director) and they both have been texting me about how well respected Coach Morris is in Texas.
His personality - LINK
His work at Clemson - Watson gives Morris a ton of credit for recruiting and developing him.

Overall, I'm worried that our tennesse-esque fans will embarrass us if we hire Morris. I hope they keep their insanity to the message board.

I am looking forward to reading the melt on hogville from all the posters who GUARANTEED that we were hiring Norvell.

You could make an argument they were the worst team in FBS.

Venables statement about Morris being a big reason why he went to Clemson spoke volumes to me. He seems to be a guy who is very well respected and might be able to pull big name assistants to Arkansas.

Well if he is our guy then all we can do is support him.

Hopefully he will surprise all of us.

They were atrocious.

I’m not an unabashed Morris homer or anything, but you have to look past his overall record and look at the improvement year/year. Also, June Jones pretty much stopped recruiting the last two years he was there, stopped giving a shite, and quite literally quit on the team. They were horrendous when Morris took over.
