I will say it's kind of lame they didn't actually do one for the *games* that were played... just the selection. I guess Auburn going full turtle didn't help provide as quality of content.

It wouldn’t be the playoff without the Big Ten being shut out.

Gotta love this:

Don’t reference Ohio State last season, which got in as the Big Ten representative despite losing the head-to-head matchup and division title to Penn State. It’s not comparable.

Also:

If you can’t even win your own conference why are you rewarded with a shot at the Natty? Win your conference and move on. The NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA men’s hoops ALL adhere to this philosophy.

Someone needs some splaining.

All things considered, Alabama should be in, period.
But conference championship games should be eliminated.

This shite was tweeted by Twitter verified, professional sports writer Lisa Horne, who has a fricking Heisman vote. She is notorious for manipulating her Heisman vote. In 2011, she left Andrew Luck and Trent Richardson (finished 2 & 3 in voting standings) completely off her ballot.
Someone needs to yank her credentials and explain sports to her.

So...none of those actually adhere to this philosophy.

Here's what I don't understand about this BS. The NCAATourney is the absolute worst way to determine the "best" team in the country, yet it is lauded as the best postseason. You don't have to win your conference, or your division to get in. Hell a lot of mediocre teams get in and get hot. Why is a conference championship so important in CFB? If you strictly went with conference champions the NCAAT would be awful. It's the same damn format as the CFP when determining bubble teams. I don't get the outrage for one and love for the other.

Thus its inclusion in the list of humorous comments...

Meh... drastically different sports IMO. 40 game regular season vs 12+1... Basketball has a higher "luck quotient" than football, but less than baseball or hockey. NFL plays single elimination style... each of the other pro sports play best of X series. NCAAT is an alternative to that which is more inclusive of additional teams but still requires more than getting hot in a game or two.

That is the way things are moving. Conference championships probably in the next 10-15 years will become a thing of the past.
As a matter of fact I think conferences as we know it within the next 20 years will be a thing of the past I see it moving into for super conferences; north south east and west. The winners of those "conferences" will meet in a playoff.
That's just what I see happening, could be wrong to be right who knows.

4 16 team super conferences. Rest of teams can play each other in another division.

People really seem to struggle with the concept that one of the four best teams might have lost a game that cost them a chance at a conference championship. I mean, if we'd lost to Iowa instead of Auburn, we'd have played Georgia in the SECCG.

I can see a lot of conferences merging together. For instance the SEC in the ACC merge together along with Conference USA in the Sunbelt. For example so a lot of the smaller teams would get to play bigger name teams and if one of those smaller teams gets hot they make the playoffs. Sort of like with the basketball tournament each year.

I said this in 2012 during the last round of expansion... not sure that we're much closer to it yet, but it makes a lot of sense.

There is a LOT of Bama fatigue in the college football world........I don't blame them but with that said..

Wait.... NCAA Shooty Hoops... so you're telling me there aren't 64 individual division/conference champs in the tourney?
Everything I ever knew was a lie...

We have 5 power conferences, only 4 of those championship winners with the best overall record + SOR + SOS, get in.
That will make it essentially a 16 team playoff system and conf championships mean something.
Low probability when picking the best 4 winners that you will have a surprise 9-3 team who knocked off an 11-1. Its mathematically possible you have 2 of those situations, but really not likely.
Based on those rules: We get the playoff, we get conference winner and the best ones at that.
So, no Bama wouldn't be in. It is a bit unfair they played one less game than everyone in the CFP.
But it is what it is.
