Uncharted Territory for Committee

The stated criteria:
Record
Championships
SOS
Head to Head
Common Opponents
Bama has the better record. Ohio State, the Championship.
Strength of Schedule
SOS is a dead heat, with OSU having more quality wins and more Bad loses. The CPI, which has been updated tonight, is slightly in Bama’s favor
LINK
while the ESPN Strength of Record, which has yet to update, may favor OSU after tonight.
LINK
Two Loses or No Championship
No two lose team has ever made it. And while a non champ has, the Committee has never selected two teams from the same conference
Politics
There has got to be some heavy pressure being brought to bare by the big ten, given the angry reaction to 2011 that partially lead to the playoffs being implemented.
Note however, that there is nothing in the stated selection criteria that addresses multiple teams from one conference. However, I have read multiple opinions that a Championship should be like a qualifier, which obviously wasn’t the case last year with Penn State and Ohio State.

What the hell is the CPI?

Championship AND Head to head COMBINED didn't seem to matter for Penn State last year.
You have to figure their 39 point beat down was the factor.
Ohio State has such a beat down, and to a worse team.

31 point loss to a very mediocre team is the biggest thing that stands out between both teams.

the 31 point lose didn't have any flukes that made it look worse than it was. That was a beating. No team should get beat that bad in a season by a non ranked team.

One thing I didn't realize until tonight is that a lot of computer models still like FSU a lot even despite their record. 20th in FPI, 30th in Sagarin. Shame if injuring Francois might be the costliest thing we did all season.

What would the betting line be between Bama and tOSU. Thought I saw a retweet of Clay Travis (
) about Bama would be a 5 point favorite over tOSU.
but then I saw on ESPN that Bama would be favored over each of OU, CU, and UGA.
I'd imagine Bama would be favored by double digits.

I don’t like the makeup of the Committee. Heavy Clemson and Ohio State influence

What is sort of worrying is we have one top 25 win
LSU
They have three, with one top 10 win
Wisconsin
Penn State
Michigan State
And then of course you have Iowa, which sort of negates their good wins.
You have to call SOS a draw, which I’m afraid makes the whole conference representation thing more important.

We both have two “good” Loses, but ours was away and their’s was home.
They were also steamrolled in that game at home

Yep. But playing the devils advocate, because of the FSU debacle, it looks like we didn’t beat anyone with a pulse. That’s why the SOS category might be tossed out as a draw.

It has been said that the committee doesn’t care what the team was ranked at the time you played them

A conference championship game is nothing more than another win or loss on a resume, and one of several tiebreakers used to sort 2-3 teams who are otherwise about equal based on their resumes, metrics, eye test etc.
Most people think winning a conference championship is a bigger factor than it actually is to the committee.
The committee is charged with selecting the four best teams, regardless of what conference they are in.
It is actually possible for all four come from one conference.

this,to me, is why tOSU will probably get picked. The AD for tOSU is on the committee for christ's sake. That AD is subject to losing his job if he doesn't secure a spot for his Buckeyes.

And what about the two with Clemson connections. They are arranging Clemson’s opponent for the semis. Who would you pick?

They are suppose to be Cf intelligent minds, and any body that follows CF knows that a Francois led FSU team is a top 12 team at worst.
