I meet in Florence a lot for work. We usually go there or Longhorn depending on what hotel you are at.

My uncle grew up there and absolutely loathes it. Is it really that bad?

You're an hour from the beach and an hour from Columbia. It isn't that bad. The town itself is rough but the Cherokee Road and 5 Points areas are nice enough.

There are definitely worse places in SC, I'm having to work in Allendale this week. HOLY frick IT'S DEPRESSING

Florence is growing and it is nothing like it was 5 to 10 years ago. They are trying to rebuild the downtown area and attract new businesses. The only downfall to Florence is that there is not much to do. They once had a minor league hockey team that was actually pretty good and the Civic Center attracts something big every now and then. It seems like more and more restaurants and grocery stores are being built but nothing in terms of doing stuff with the kids and family. The one plus to Florence is the location...almost 2 hours away from Charleston, and hour or so from Myrtle Beach, three to three and half hours away from the mountains.

Allendale is the poorest and least populated county in SC, except for maybe McCormick. Definitely a terrible place.
Florence isn’t too bad, but the people from there are a little weird.

Neither is bad (he'll, both are good), but having them on the list for go to restaurants is a sad sign for Florence...

I was just naming a few places that was at the interstate or a short distance from the interstate. There are several local restaurants that are very good in Florence but several of the are across town.

Fair enough
But I would argue that is not what OP is asking - if they are right off interstate, he will see them...

Other than farming or meth, I can't imagine what one would do as work in Allendale.

Hahahahaha...I worked at Allendale County Hospital when I was fresh out of nursing school. It is a depressing place, that is a fact. I was also born at Allendale County Hospital bc I'm originally from Barnwell and it was the closest hospital that delivered when mama was preggers with me.
