Yes. Said at Super Bowl the Gators we’re only football team he pulled for.

He was a mainstay in Gainesville for years until he hit it big. Not sure why this keeps coming up, the Gainesville connection has never been a secret.

If I lived in Gainesville I'd hate the Gators even more than I do now.

Exactly. The rest of the posters on here don't know shite about Petty nor his Gainesville history.

Revisionist history much? He left Florida for California as soon as he could find a way across the country and never came back other than to pick your pockets.

Something is fishy as frick with this statement. I was at a Tom Petty and Heartbreaker concert many years ago at the Summit. I remember him saying that Houston was his favorite city in the world. Never mentioned Gainesville once.

A friend of mine saw him play in Pittsburgh. He said Pittsburgh was also his favorite city in the world. Never mentioned Gainesville.

Something not adding up. You Gatahs are grabbing onto someone who really had nothing to do with you. Now if John Deere or Weedeater wanted to latch onto him... they got me and I couldn't argue.

He was definitely a Gator fan. And for years, it has been common knowledge to those who knew anything about his background.

I heard an interview with him awhile back in which the interviewer started asking him questions about CFB. He was he was a fan of UF but didn't appear to have much knowledge of CFB at all. Don't think he was a big fan.
