jesus. yeah my sister had 2 DUIs plead down and wasn't convicted of a DUI until her third. She also was let go by the cops after running her car into a ditch drunk. This was in Louisiana, though, and my grandfather used to be a sitting judge years ago, so he knew the right people to get her taken care of.

My favorite Athens PD move is the terrorist grab you and throw in the van for an open container outside a bar move. It's like getting snatched outside the green zone in Kabul or something.

Alpharetta in Fulton County. I can see why she had no problem getting those reduced. Fulton County has too many cases to deal with to not be generous with plea bargains. For instance, after three shoplifting charges, the 4th is supposed to escalate to a felony. Had a case come to our office in Dekalb County where a guy had gotten arrested for his FORTY EIGHTH shoplifting offense and Fulton hadn't ever done a thing about it. It took him getting popped in Deklab for anyone to even take notice. I actually had an offer to work there and turned it down after seeing how ridiculously unorganized they were

They were all run through alpharetta courts, not sure if that changes things
Only punishment besides fines was 48hrs in alpharetta jail, which was nothing, because its nice and no one is in there, plus she had vistors all throughout the days

Possibly. But I think we've at least established that the previous poster was full of shite when he said the state of Georgia doesn't negotiate on DUIs

My SIL did jail time on her third. Cobb County.
I guess county really does matter, alot.
And Tuscaloosa is light on football player enforcement and punishment.

If she was convicted, convicted being the key word, of her third DUI, then there are mandatory minimum jail sentences on that. Georgia actually has a mandatory 48 hours in jail for driving on a suspended license, which I always found to be absurd.
Actually worked in Cobb county too after my first year of law school at the solicitor's office, where all misdemeanors go. Depending on what solicitor gets assigned to the case, they can be tougher on some offenses than other counties may be.

Tuscaloosa arrests students and football players quite frequently. Are they sentenced harshly? I have no idea, but I don't think UGA kids are generally sentenced harshly either. Not sure they should be for stupid college things, either.

I've seen this thread on this board more times than I can count, and it always includes UGA supporters making wild and unfounded claims like this. I spent a summer in Athens when I was like 20 and I assure you I tried my hardest to do everything fun that could possibly lead to an arrest, and never got even close. So what's the talking point anyway- that the football players are actively targeted by the APD? Seems preposterous.
On a somewhat related note I went to high school with a guy who started for Auburn in the early 2000's. he claimed the cops had an agreement worked out with the coaches on DUI's. You can take that for what it's worth or accuse me of making it all up, I really don't care. That said, counting DUI's charged against players at all SEC schools through the years would be a fairly good way I think to gauge the climate at each of the schools. You've got close to 100 college kids on each team all coming from similar backgrounds. Unlike your more violent crimes which tend to occur in pockets, I think it's safe to assume SEC players drink and drive in somewhat proportional numbers.

not saying you are making shite up, everyone has their own story, but I managed a bar downtown, during this time, and the cops treated the players like shite.
Current police chief(I think, unless he has retired recently, used to be the point man downtown and he used to joke about busting players

Hypothetical about a typical UGA poster:
A Georgia football player gets arrested and so the UGA poster:
A. Blames the UGA football player
or
B. Posts that if this were in Tuscaloosa he wouldn't have been arrested or that the punishment wouldn't be as harsh
