I think they hate the university in general. And that was the case 11 years ago when I was still there. But I'm sure that's the case of any PD in a college town.

They normally make you do that in person. It's about a 4 hour drive for me.
Figured someone in the Tuscaloosa media would have published a story about it. I guess the media there is implicit as well. really good at keeping stuff quiet, unlike the Athens media that has people paid off at all the bail bonds places, which is why Weiczer always has the 3 am scoop on the arrests for the Athens Banner Herald.

No they don't. I have to request records like this all the time. They're not free, but you can always get them if you need them. Many clerk's offices will e-mail them to you.

I don't know why you're trying to turn a misdemeanor DUI offense into a conspiracy. DUIs are negotiated down all the time. And prelims are reset all the time.

DUI's are never negotiated down in Georgia. You can get your punishments negotiated down. The charge sticks, unless the cop screwed something up.
I guess this is an Alabama thing? Or you say you are in Tennessee, is this a Tenn thing?

I'm not a fool, bro. I am not an attorney but I've dealt with enough municipalities to get public title and real estate records to know you can't just call up Cindy at the courthouse and have her email me Deshawn's court transcripts.
At least not in Georgia. Everything is a big fricking hassle here.

Yes, I practice in TN, but I also interned at the DA's office in Dekalb County, GA in law school. And they are absolutely negotiated down in many cases. Not in every case obviously but it certainly happens. Here in TN it depends on which county you are in, the BAC of the defendant, and other exigent circumstances with how easy/difficult it is to have a DUI reduced to a reckless.

I've never had a dui but I know many people who have, in GA, and the only one I know that was actually negotiated down was a teenager that got one, they were willing to neg it down so as to "not ruin her life" with it being on permanent record.
Every adult I know that's had one, hired lawyers, first offenses with no criminal background, every single one of them ended up with a full fledged DUI on their record.
In Georgia.

No, they'll ask you the defendant's name and birthday. If they have to mail them and require a fee, you can pay over the phone or send them a check/money order. Some clerks are nice enough to e-mail them to you immediately and don't even require a fee. It varies county to county.

The players all go on ride alongs with the local PD. They take photos with them and it helps make problems go away.

without knowing the facts of their case, i can't tell you why they weren't able to. For instance, in a lot of counties around where I practice there is an unstated "grey area" for BAC that you can negotiate down to a reckless on a first offense DUI if they have a BAC at .12 or lower. The highest I've been able to negotiate down was a .16. However, in one county in my area, they don't negotiate anything down but they also don't hammer you on your sentence and will still give you the minimums if you take it to trial. This county (Williamson) doesn't negotiate on much of anything, not just DUIs. The typical response from their DAs are "this isn't Nashville." Like i said it all depends on what county you're in and other factors in your case. If your buddies had a high BAC, then no they probably weren't able to get it down to a reckless.

My POS sister in law has had 3 plead down to reckless, although the third was pot, but she was also involved in a hit and run. The first two were .18 and .21 BAC's
