FWIW, GSU is a much worse team this year than they have been historically. Ask their fans (several GSU alum friends/family). Referring to the Florida game, takes you back I believe to when they were still a triple option team. They run a different scheme now and really have struggled to be effective running the ball.
That's not to say they're a push over or anything, but GSU in 2017 is not the same as the GSU that you're referring to in the case of UF and Bama. The Ole Miss game is when Kelly went down with the ACL injury in the third quarter. They got off to a good start, but essentially did nothing the rest of the game... coincidentally neither did Ole Miss after losing Kelly.
They're better than Kent state, but not "orders of magnitude" greater by any means. Connelly's S&P+ put GSU at 98 with Kent state at 123... and that's with the metric giving a fair amount of weight to their 5 year average which includes the seasons prior to 2016 with a different coach and scheme for what it's worth.

Where are the Clemson posters to weigh in on Clemson's LBs? My guess is they're already dealing with lines of customers at Sbarro
Sorry; we were swamped. Ran out of banana peppers.
Venables is not only the DC, but he takes a special interest in his old position, hence we've been blessed with a constantly improving LB corps since his arrival.
Kendall Joseph had over 900 snaps last year at MIKE and is the most experienced LB, and will start at WIll.
Tre Lamar is starting MIKE. Big LB at 6'3" 240, 5*, all that stuff. He took around 100 snaps last year. He's a good bit bigger than Joseph who played there last year.
Chad Smith is the other big LB at MIKE. 6'4" 235. Has played ST until now, but looks like he's going to get his chance this year.
Dorian O'Daniel put in right at 500 snaps last year at SAM, and is probably the best run stopper (contingent on seeing what Lamar does). He's the only Sr of the bunch.
Losing Boulware will hurt more from a loss of leadership than anything. No one knew the defense or played harder, but he was a bit of a liability against the pass. These guys are all very athletic. This LB corps is going to be very good. When even Venables doesn't have much to complain about, you can rest assured that he doesn't see any insurmountable problems.

Auburn has the advantage at LB. We're deep and savage

RB - Auburn.
I agree however I hope the staff trusts Etienne to play in this game. Hes shined in camp
quote:
WR - Toss up.
No its Clemson. Deon Cain lost around 20 lbs this off season and is a straight burner now. He will be a serious problem for teams all year. Hunter Renfrow is a big game player. Freshman Amari Rodgers and Tee Higgins will both play. Diondre Overton the 9 man (cains position) is long and can run
quote:
OL - Auburn. No real discussion needed. They have the returning starters and the experience.
Two sophomores on the left side. Sack fumble td against Southern. Expect Venebles to bring pressure there all night. Clemso returned 4/5 starters and is solid
quote:
DL - Clemson. Both have 5*s on the line. Clemson seems to develop their guys alot better though.
Yep
quote:
LB - ???????
5th year senior Dorian Odaniel. Been around the block and slides to nickle sam and battles with Renfrow in practice. Hastings will have his work cut out for him. Kendell Joseph is a run stopping fool and Tre Lamar in the middle has shown promise
quote:
DB - Auburn. Auburn fans will argue that Carlton Davis is the return of Carlos Rogers,
The guy Mike Williams bodied all night last year? Expect a different approach from Cain but if he is left in man Cain can do damage. Plus Clemson is constantly rotating receivers so Auburn better have some depth there or they will be tired by the fourth. Ask Ohio State coach Greg Schiano
The Clemson staff is full of guys who know how to beat Auburn and love beating Auburn. Swinney, Todd Bates, Mickey Conn and Lamanski Hall
That being said I have it a close game that could go either way. Just way to many unknowns at the Qb position for both teams. Stidham is good but has he gelled in the new offense yet

Oh, so advantage Clemson in nearly every category? Seems reasonable.

Your homer is showing. Most if not all of your Takes are wrong.

No both lines are even. Where the games is won you know? Auburn advantage at RB and Linebacker. And the qbs are both unknowns at the moment
Theres a reason Clemson has won 14 games the last two years, where as Auburn has limped to 8 wins seasons. Facts are facts

quote:This is the part that works in Clemson's favor. Clemson's defensive front is going to be a whole lot faster and their DBs are going to be able to cover a little better than Ga. Southern's. That is going to create problems. That is what alot of people where trying to explain to some Auburn fans over the off-season. He isn't used to faster defenses and DBs that can cover for more than 4 seconds. Now, this is something that he can and probably will develop as the season goes on. He should be fully accustomed to it in another 2-3 games, but he will still show signs of adjusting this game imo.
I am not going to comment on Clemsons because I did not watch their game but our Oline play was not that bad. Stidham held the ball too long on some instances and broke out of the pocket at times. I believe it is more of a meshing issue and not bad Oline play.
Our line should be OK. We will see if Jarrett can shake off the rust though

QB - Clemson. Both QBs are new and Bryant had a better showing, but there were circumstances around Stidham's performance, mainly being the offense being focused around Pettway's running ability. Well he didn't play and Auburn's offense couldn't get into a rhythm. Could be totally different with that presence. Still like Clemson's QB better. Dabo knows how to develop a QB.
Who is the AU backup QB since snowboard cam is out again?

Yeah, you're right. A weak arse ACC schedule.

quote:The reason I went with a tossup is because of this: Clemson's WRs + Bryant can give Auburn all kinds of fits, all kinds. On the other hand, with a solid running game opening up opportunities, Stidham can do the same with his very talented crops. So essentially it is a toss up.

Nah, it's only in the SEC where people hand-wring over hurricanes & such. In the ACC we just play the dang games, storm or no storm. No weaseling out of games we may be afraid we might lose. In 2015 Clemson-Notre Dame was played on schedule, in spite of an epic rain event tied to Hurricane Joaquin (which the next day turned out to be a serious natural disaster for the state of South Carolina). Last year NCState-Notre Dame & NC-VaTech, in Raleigh & Chapel Hill respectively, were played right in the middle of Hurricane Matthew, while Florida-LSU was rescheduled even though it was nowhere near the eventual path of the storm. (SC-Georgia in Columbia was postponed to the following Sunday, which did seem like a prudent move at the time.)
Seriously though, it looks like Irma won't be affecting weather in the southeast until late Sunday or so. Besides, Clemson is far enough inland that it wouldn't bear the brunt of a tropical system anyway. But whether it's in the moonlight or a drenching downpour, Dabo's boys will show up ready to play & Clemson fans will show up ready to yell their team to victory.

ACC was very tough last season, quit listening to so much Finebaum

You're vastly underrating Auburn's WRs and DBs. Hopefully your coaching staff is as arrogant as you are. If so, that will be where we win the game

WAS being the key word in that statement. It is a new year and so far the acc is 0-3 vs SEC.

You don't have to listen to Finebaum to know that this:
is a much easier schedule than:
quote:
Troy
SC State
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Boston College
NC State
Florida State
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Wake Forest
South Carolina
is a much easier schedule than:
quote:
Arkansas State
Texas A&M
LSU
Louisiana–Monroe
Mississippi State
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt
Georgia
Alabama A&M
Alabama

Auburn wideouts are talented but unproven compared to Clemsons. Clemsons have made plays in the biggest of moments
Auburn Dbs are good and so are Clemsons. Trayvon Mullen and Mark Fields were both top 100 players in their classes.

Last year Clemson would've been the favorite in all those games except Bama. Clemson beat a tough V tech team who was playing great at the end of last year, Ohio st and Bama in the postseason. Meanwhile, Oklahoma had an easy win vs Auburn. A Oklahoma team Clemson has dominated twice recently
